About Symbotic
Symbotic uses an AI-driven robotic platform to transform how consumer goods flow through the supply chain. Our intelligent software coordinates fleets of advanced robots in a dense, end-to-end system that reimagines warehouse automation for speed, efficiency, and flexibility.
The Opportunity
Step into a field leadership role that owns outcomes on live customer sites. As the Automation Site Installation Lead Engineer, you guide the installation of Symbotic’s automation—from mobilization through commissioning readiness—ensuring work is performed safely, at high quality, and on schedule. This is hands-on field leadership, not project coordination. You’ll make real-time decisions under pressure and direct multi-discipline, multi-vendor teams in active construction and startup environments.
Day in the Life
You arrive on site and kick off a focused stand-up with electricians, controls technicians, and third-party partners. You align the day’s plan, safety priorities, and quality checks. Mid-morning, you validate adapter cell installation against checklists, resolve defects, and confirm documentation completeness. After lunch, an unexpected constraint appears—materials are delayed and a schedule path is at risk. You weigh design, process, and execution factors, make a call, and re-sequence tasks to keep the critical path intact. By day’s end, you’ve verified cell-level readiness for commissioning, updated performance tests, and captured lessons learned for the next site.
What You’ll Lead
- On-site execution of automation, controls, and adapter-cell installation from mobilization through commissioning readiness.
- Safe, high-quality, on-time work across electricians, controls technicians, commissioning resources, and third-party contractors.
- Cell-level readiness handoff to commissioning with minimal rework and zero safety incidents.
- Field authority for Symbotic’s automation installation scope on site.
- Direction and influence of multi-vendor, multi-discipline teams without formal reporting lines.
- Real-time decision-making when conditions shift, issues arise, or schedules face risk.
- Identification, escalation, and resolution of installation-driven risks to schedule, quality, and cost.
- Ownership of the cost and schedule impact of field changes, rework, and resource trade-offs.
- Contractor performance, productivity, and accountability management.
- Hands-on field verification, checklists, and performance testing to validate system installation.
- Ensuring each adapter cell and automation area is commissioning-ready with defects resolved and documentation complete.
- Capturing lessons learned and applying them to future sites.
- Close partnership with Site Installation Management, Project Management, Engineering, Safety, and Commissioning.
- Leadership of automation-specific kickoffs, progress reviews, and recovery plans.
About the Team
Site Installation converts engineered designs into fully installed, commissioning-ready operations. The team manages the full on-site lifecycle—automation equipment, adapter cells, electrical and controls integration—and coordinates with structural, racking, and construction partners. In partnership with Project Management, Engineering, Safety, and Commissioning, we ensure systems are installed safely, at high quality, on schedule, and within budget to set each site up for successful startup and long-term performance.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or related field (required).
- 3+ years of trade experience in electrical or automation installation, industrial automation, robotics/ASRS, or large-scale capital equipment installations (required).
- Proven ownership of live installations that goes beyond participation or coordination.
- Experience leading electrical, controls, commissioning, and third-party installation teams.
- Ability to distinguish design vs. process vs. execution issues in the field.
- Decisiveness under pressure and a track record of holding teams accountable to deliver.
- Clear communication with engineers, project managers, customers, vendors, contractors, and senior leadership.
Work Environment & Travel
- Hybrid, travel-based position; proximity to a major airport is preferred.
- Travel required up to 80%. Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and customer locations.
- Main office in Wilmington, MA. Extended assignments at customer installation locations where equipment is installed and ready for commissioning.
