Automation Software Engineer (Touch Labor Focus)

Location: Littleton, Colorado (Onsite)

Role Overview

We are seeking an Automation Software Engineer with a focus on touch labor support. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining machine-level automation scripts for electronics manufacturing. The position requires providing on-floor support for script debugging and collaborating with process engineers to enhance data capture for defect analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain machine-level automation scripts that translate CAD data into placement files and control line sequencing.
• Build operator-friendly UI tools for tablets or HMI interfaces, allowing staff to adjust key parameters without extensive coding knowledge.
• Create and maintain version-controlled repositories for all automation assets, enforcing code review and test standards.
• Provide on-floor support for script debugging, alarm handling, and changeover requests during shift transitions.
• Collaborate with Process Engineers to embed data-capture hooks for defect-analysis and statistical process control reporting.

Required Qualifications

Education: B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Experience: 2-4 years developing automation solutions for high-mix SMT or electronics manufacturing.

Technical Skills:

• Programming Languages: Python, C/C++, Structured Text (IEC 61131-3), JavaScript/Node-RED; familiarity with RESTful APIs.
• Industrial Protocols: OPC-UA, Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, MQTT, or similar.
• Tools & Platforms: Siemens/Allen-Bradley PLCs, Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Git, Docker (optional).
• Other: Ability to read equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and understand mechanical motions of placement heads.

Preferred Qualifications

• A passion for human-centered automation, creating simple and reliable interfaces for operators.
• Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot both software and hardware interactions under production pressure.
• Experience with Lean/Kaizen to streamline change-over times.
