Automotive/Bus Technician Job Description

We’re searching for a skilled Bus Technician to join our team. In this role, it will be your responsibility to resolve the Customer issues with their vehicle, complete internal and warranty repairs, plus install dealer equipment options. You will work directly with our Service Writer and Shop Foreman to gather information about the repairs needed. Then, you will use your expertise to inspect the vehicle and repair or diagnose the issue.

To do well in this role, you will need to be both very knowledgeable about vehicles and have the mechanical skills needed to repair them. You should also be able to demonstrate professionalism in the workplace, as you will be interacting with our clients and fellow employees regularly.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Able to perform preventative maintenance services
  • Proficient in the repair and diagnosis of: electrical systems, interior & exterior bus components, hydraulic systems, air systems, steering systems, HVAC systems, and brakes
  • Proficient in use of hand tools, power tools, and computer software.
  • Basic computer skills to input vehicle maintenance records and utilize diagnostic software
  • Be able to provide a detailed written analysis and computer input of the three C’s (complaint, cause, correction) as well as details on any repairs
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job (job requires frequent lifting/moving up to 50lbs, climbing, stooping, kneeling, seeing, grasping, hearing, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance and work in a safe and alert manner
  • Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements (CDL a plus)

Responsibilities

  • This position is primarily responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing, and repairing School and Commercial buses.
  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to troubleshoot issues and repair vehicle to proper operating condition
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance services
  • Identify worn and damaged parts. All parts to include major components, repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed
  • Troubleshooting with diagnostic software – charging and electrical systems, air brakes, suspensions, A/C system, and engine/transmission systems
  • Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
  • Ability to be on task to meet shop quality and efficiency standards
  • Maintain safe and organized work area
  • Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
