Job Title:

Automotive Diagnostic Support Specialist


Type of Position:

This is a long-term / ongoing contract role with no fixed end date. This position is not expected to convert to direct hire, but it is considered a stable, permanent-style contract role. Several team members have been a part of this team for 10+ years. This role is best suited for someone seeking a steady, ongoing opportunity rather than a short-term project.


Job Location:

Auburn Hills, MI (hybrid role)


Compensation:

$23.00/hr to $28.00/hr (depending on experience).


Benefits:

Overview:

HRU Technical Resources is partnering with a major automotive manufacturer to hire an Automotive Diagnostic Support Specialist in Auburn Hills, MI. This role will support vehicle diagnostic software validation, dealership diagnostic feedback, Pass-Thru software validation/release, and root cause analysis for diagnostic tool and test plan concerns. The Diagnostic Support Specialist will work closely with dealership partners, internal technical teams, company partners, and diagnostic authors in multiple regions to investigate software/tool issues, document findings, coordinate corrective actions, and support diagnostic issue resolution for North American vehicles.


Responsibilities:

  • Validate pre-release and post-release diagnostic software on North American vehicles.
  • Conduct vehicle diagnostic software validation during both pre-launch and post-launch phases.
  • Validate and release Pass-Thru diagnostic software.
  • Manage new vehicle launch processes related to diagnostic software release testing and validation schedules.
  • Manage test vehicle procurement processes.
  • Review, manage, and investigate dealership feedback and field reports related to diagnostic software and tool concerns.
  • Perform detailed root cause analysis to identify and resolve diagnostic test plan issues.
  • Reproduce diagnostic tool issues on vehicles or bench setups and document condition, cause, and correction for each concern investigated.
  • Use company internal systems to gather data for issue analysis, prioritization, and tracking.
  • Track progress of assigned issues using database tracking systems.
  • Coordinate with company partners to develop “hotfixes” to better address in-service vehicle issues.
  • Interface with diagnostic authors in Germany, Mexico, and Brazil to track implementation of issue resolutions.
  • Assist with product and diagnostic tool investigations requested by internal customers.
  • Serve as a technical lead when needed, helping meet timing requirements, perform assigned tasks, and delegate tasks as appropriate.
  • Work with dealer partners to gather information needed to evaluate feedback requests.
  • Maintain technical issue lists, including assignment ownership and closure timing.
  • Inform management of internal and external problems, roadblocks, and issue status.
  • Coordinate support for independent repair facilities with internal team leadership.
  • Install “hotfixes” directly into dealership diagnostic testers.


Skills, Education, Experience – Required:

  • AAS or BS degree in Automotive Technology, or equivalent experience. High School Diploma or GED at a minimum
  • Minimum of 5 years of diagnostic support experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience developing, using, or validating vehicle diagnostic applications.
  • Knowledge of OEM diagnostic systems and diagnostic tool platforms.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication protocols, including CAN FD and DOIP.
  • Audi and Volkswagen diagnostic software protocol interpretation knowledge.
  • Audi and Volkswagen diagnostic failure code analysis experience.
  • High level of Audi and Volkswagen service information knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Volkswagen/Audi vehicle diagnostic processes.
  • Knowledge of EPA-related Pass-Thru diagnostic processes and diagnostic equipment.
  • Understanding of individual vehicle subsystem theory and operation, including electrical, engine, suspension, brakes, and related systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly discuss and document technical details.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, written communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.


Skills, Education, Experience – Preferred:

  • Volkswagen/Audi technical familiarity and dealership experience.
  • ASE certifications or equivalent experience.
  • ASE certified or willingness to obtain and maintain ASE Master Certification in categories A1-A8.
  • 5+ years of hands-on diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an automotive field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience evaluating or developing vehicle drivability or electrical diagnostic procedures for dealership use.
  • German language skills.


Work Environment / Other Info:

  • This will be a 1st (day) shift role – Monday to Friday. 
  • This will be a hybrid role based in Auburn Hills, MI.
  • This will be a salaried role (no OT, paid for 40 hours per week regardless of hours worked).
