This is not a Civil Service Position. DWSD employees are subject to provisions of Court Orders entered in United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, Case No. 77-71100 with regard to certain terms and conditions of employment. DWSD does not honor reversion rights for internal candidates.

The Automotive Fleet Technician makes service repairs and performs maintenance on one or more makes of automotive equipment including but not limited to fleet vehicles, dump trucks, backhoes, vactors, sweepers, flushers, bulldozers, and tractors used in daily operations at various facilities.
SUMMARY:
The Automotive Fleet Technician makes service repairs and performs maintenance on one or more makes of automotive equipment including but not limited to fleet vehicles, dump trucks, backhoes, vactors, sweepers, flushers, bulldozers, and tractors used in daily operations at various facilities.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment such as changing oil, repairing or replacing tires, lubing chassis, changing air and fuels filters, checking fluids. Complete inspections of parts and engines for abnormalities. Road test vehicles, perform routine maintenance on various equipment such as pumps, compressors, generators, etc. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE). A valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License and the ability to drive a motor vehicle on all terrain. Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties. Provide on the job training.
RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS:
Regularly inspect the working conditions and maintain the cleanliness of equipment and surrounding areas. Handle inventory control by maintaining purchased items, open orders, back orders and repair orders. Complete scheduled preventative maintenance on tools and equipment. Perform related work duties as assigned.

Environmental Working Requirements:
Work is performed in the shop or the field and requires the ability to work in all conditions involving exposure to outside elements and seasonal weather. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.
