Automotive Instrumentation Integration Technician

About the Role

Step into a hands-on role where you’ll prepare development vehicles for testing and bring complex measurement systems to life. You’ll integrate sensors and data systems, build low-voltage harnesses from drawings and schematics, and ensure everything is calibrated and ready for the road. If you have at least one year of automotive mechanic experience (personal or professional), we’ll provide robust, on-the-job training and mentorship to help you grow. A background in car audio translates well to this work.

Day in the Life

Morning begins by reviewing the Instrumentation Requirement List (IRL) and planning out sensor locations with customers, fabricators, and mechanics. You’ll fabricate and install low-voltage automotive and instrumentation wiring harnesses, auxiliary battery circuits, and electrical subsystems. As you move through the day, you’ll install, adjust, and calibrate thermocouples, pressure transducers, shunts, fiber optics, accelerometers, and data acquisition equipment. You’ll assist with a complete functional inspection and prove-out of instrumentation per Instrumentation Quality Assurance (IQA), diagnose and repair wiring issues, and document your notes in service repair requests. Throughout, you’ll use power supplies, function generators, and a multimeter, keep shop equipment in top condition through preventive maintenance, and participate in daily cleanup. Overtime and weekend work may be part of the schedule when needed.

Training and Support

Hands-on training is provided to prepare vehicles for testing. You’ll be mentored by experienced teammates on project execution and customer interactions.

What You’ll Need

• Basic mechanic tools; wiring and instrumentation tools will also be needed.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of mechanic experience (personal or professional).
• Ability to follow procedures, work instructions, publications, and schematic diagrams.
• Strong organization; able to work independently and collaboratively.
• Clear communication and effective time management.
• Attention to detail and willingness to work overtime and weekends.

Great to Have

• Certificate in Automotive Technology or related field.
• ASE certifications and/or State Mechanic certifications.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Experience with soldering, crimping, tube bending, component layout, and packaging on vehicles or subsystems.
• Knowledge of proper installation for thermocouples and pressure transducers.
• Car audio experience or similar hands-on electronics background.
