Position Description
Under the Supervision of the Fleet Shop Coordinator or the Fleet Services Manager, the Diesel Automotive Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair or preventative maintenance to county-owned vehicles and equipment, as assigned in accordance with Harris County Fleet Services and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform required Vehicle Maintenance and thorough inspection of all Vehicle Systems, including Engine, Brakes, Steering, Suspension, A/C, and Electrical
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform high quality and efficient repairs with a "fix it right the first time" approach.
Servicing or repairing heavy equipment, vehicles, standard and small equipment as needed.
Perform Quality Control Inspections on Vendor repaired Vehicles to ensure repairs are completed.
Communicate directly and effectively with Shop Coordinators and Parts Department.
Document and update all tasks performed in Fleet software and ensure data is correct
Perform any additional heavy-duty equipment and automotive related tasks assigned by management.

Requirements
Experience:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Able to repair diesel, heavy duty equipment, and standard vehicles from Class 1 - Class 8.
Help maintain excellent customer satisfaction

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Regular Full-Time 40 hours a week (4 days/10 hrs. each shift) 6am - 4:30pm
Possible after hours if needed during assigned rotational On-Call shift as needed.
Possible nights and weekends as needed
Possible 12-hour shifts or 24/7 shifts as needed at times of natural disasters and emergency response

Work Environment:
May be exposed to dust, dirt, fumes, etc.
May be asked to work outdoors in elements such as hot, cold, and rain.
Physical Demands:
Subject to occasional kneeling, crouching, handling, climbing, walking, sitting, twisting, and reaching as needed to perform the essential functions.
This would require the ability to lift files of up to 50 lbs., open filling cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
Reporting Relationships:
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
