The career opportunity:

Summary of the Automotive Service Technician (C) position: Hopelink Automotive Service Technician warrants someone who is driven and brings a strong work ethic to the team! This position will perform work in the diagnosis, repair and service of automobiles, medium and heavy-duty trucks, buses, and related equipment such as hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel engines. This role is also responsible for preventive maintenance inspections and related repairs.

This role requires the candidate to obtain their CDL class C within 90 days ofhire and pass a DOT medical exam. Training for CDL class C will be provided at no cost to employee. Applicants with a valid Washington State driver's license will be considered.

Schedule:

During CDL training (4-6 weeks): Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:00pm

Shop training (3-4 weeks): Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

After training is complete: Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am-6:30pm

What you will be doing:
  • Diagnose and repair tires, cooling, electrical, brakes (including ABS), steering, air intake systems, fuel injection systems, suspension systems, and electronic components.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair wheelchair lifts, lift gates, and other related systems.
  • Repair and replace interior systems and components.
  • Install and/or remove specialized equipment to meet department's specific needs.
  • Operate standard shop equipment including computerized wheel balancer, parts washer, various hydraulic service lifts, jacks, jack stands, presses, overhead fluid dispensers, and various hand tools.
  • Repair and maintain shop equipment. Clean shop floors, benches and equipment when needed.
  • Maintain service, maintenance, repair, and other related records in a computer database information management system.
  • Identify parts and components needed and, using proper nomenclature, complete written parts requests.
  • Make service calls to rescue and repair disabled vehicles.
  • Provide technical assistance to non-automotive service personnel.
  • Dispense fuel, wash and vacuum vehicles when needed.
  • Provide daily, weekly, monthly reporting information to all Transportation staff members when needed.
  • Perform safety inspections on Hopelink vehicles.
  • Fully operate all types of Hopelink vehicles. Transport vehicles to dealers and other service vendors.
Qualities we are looking for:
  • 1+ years experience in an automotive shop/dealership or technical college setting
  • ASE certification is highly desired
  • Computer/technology proficiency: ability to use MS Office 365, MS Outlook, and online systems including timekeeping, and program specific systems, etc.

  • Regular work tasks involve moving items weighing up to 70 pounds, team assistance as necessary.
  • This job operates in an automotive maintenance shop environment utilizing various hand tools and power tools. Physical movement is necessary within the shop.
  • This role also operates in a professional office environment. Work tasks involve routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines; accessing office machinery, mail room, or filing cabinets, etc. may involve physical movement within the office space.
  • This job includes the ability to judge, inspect, and perceive details at a close range.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately noisy.
Licenses, certificates, and other requirements:
  • Valid Washington State drivers license with acceptable driving history
  • Valid CDL or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Valid DOT medical certification card
  • ASE Certifications preferred but not required
  • Must pass criminal background check
  • Must have reliable transportation to adhere to service critical employee attendance requirements
  • Must have personal/appropriate hand tools relevant to the job
  • Must have work boots with oil resistant soles
  • Must have proof of personal automobile liability insurance
  • Subject to pre-employment & random drug testing

  • Compensation: $28.00 (DOE)
  • New Hire Bonus: $3,000
