The individual in this position is responsible for supervising the light duty automotive shop, ensuring that maintenance and repair tasks are performed efficiently and correctly, performs preventative maintenance, provides technical expertise, manages mechanics, ensures compliance with safety regulations and problem diagnostics on light-duty city vehicles and equipment. Essential duties include:

  • Coordinates, supervises and organizes the day-to-day operations of the Automotive shop
  • Assigns daily work orders to mechanics, prioritizes tasks, and ensures timely completion or repairs
  • Monitors work progress and provides technical guidance, and assists with repairs
  • Inspects completed work to ensure it meets the organization's quality standards and meetings satisfactory expectations
  • Develops and implements shop procedures to improve efficiency and quality of work
  • Provides technical support and training to mechanics on advanced vehicle systems and diagnostics
  • Utilizes advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve complex vehicles issues
  • Must stay updated on the latest advancements in the automotive industry and integrate new practices into shop operations
  • Addresses and resolves any quality issues quickly and efficiently
  • Ensures a clean and organized work areas are maintained to prevent accidents and improve productivity
  • Prepares and files weekly and monthly vehicle maintenance reports
  • Reviews work orders after job completion for accuracy
  • Maintains accurate records related to vehicles, parts, and service history
  • Troubleshoots vehicle and equipment operations problems; diagnoses problems and makes repairs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to standard schedules.
  • Transports tools and equipment to perform field repairs.
  • Adjusts, repairs or replaces parts and equipment.
  • Welds and fabricates parts as needed.
  • Repairs vehicle A/C units.
  • Maintains and repairs small engines.
  • Delivers vehicles to dealers for warranty repairs.
  • Attends safety meetings and classes.
  • Maintains tools and equipment.
  • Maintains a safe and tidy shop.
  • Performs the duties of the superintendent in his or her absence.
  • Responds to after-hours calls as needed.
  • Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
  • Performs related duties.
