Open Position: AVP, Operations Technology
Overview
The AVP, Operations Technology is responsible for modernizing operational tooling, reporting, and workflows to improve efficiency, stability, and risk management across Operations. This role focuses on dashboards and report modernization, workflow automation, and structured partnership with Business Analysts and Operations leadership team to implement scalable and enterprise-aligned solutions. The role requires strong data and technology execution skills, paired with a practical understanding of investment operations. This role reports to the Head of Business Technology with a matrix reporting line to Operations leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Reporting and Dashboarding
Design operational and management reporting using Power BI, Power Query, and Power Pivot
Develop standardized and reusable data models to support consistent reporting across Operations
Partner with stakeholders to define KPIs, operational metrics, and management dashboards
Implement validation, reconciliation, and control checks within reporting workflows
Support enhanced visibility into operational health (e.g., in-kind activity, process status, exceptions)
Legacy Tool Modernization & Process Stabilization
Identify high-risk or fragile legacy tools and processes across Operations
Migrate manual processes and macro-based solutions to more sustainable, supportable platforms
Improve documentation, transparency, and supportability of operational tools
Reduce key-person dependency and operational fragility
Frame modernization work in terms of operational stability, scalability, and risk reduction
Workflow Automation (TIBCO)
Partner with Operations leadership and Business Analysts to determine readiness for automation and identify opportunities to reduce manual touchpoints
Partner with the Enterprise Applications team to design and implement automated workflows using TIBCO (or similar workflow platforms) that improve control, auditability, and transparency
Ensure workflow designs align with internal control standards and compliance requirements
Support ongoing tuning, optimization, and enhancement of automated processes
Strategic Platforms & Foundational Tool Support
Support foundational stability initiatives across core platforms (e.g., SimCorp book close), including early discovery, scoping, and planning for future cycles
Partner with Senior Business Analysts, enterprise technology teams, and vendors to assess feasibility, translate requirements into scalable designs, and recommend solution approaches
Participate in process re-engineering initiatives and contribute to prioritization of the Operations technology roadmap
Provide support for Python-based operational tools transitioned into OPS, improving sustainability, documentation, and supportability to reduce operational risk and key-person dependency
AI-Aware Automation & Risk Reduction
Maintain an AI-aware mindset, proactively identifying opportunities to leverage AI and intelligent automation.
Explore use cases for AI in exception handling, anomaly detection, reconciliation support, and document processing.
Partner with enterprise technology teams to pilot AI-enabled tools where appropriate.
Evaluate automation opportunities not only for efficiency, but also for risk reduction and control enhancement.
Ensure responsible AI usage aligned with governance and compliance standards.
Production Support & Issue Resolution
Triage and resolve reporting issues, data discrepancies, and operational breaks
Perform root-cause analysis and recommend sustainable fixes vs. tactical workarounds
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validation for new or modernized operational tools and operational system upgrades or enhancements.
Communicate clearly with Operations stakeholders regarding issue status and resolutions
Required Skills & Experience
Strong familiarity with investment operations / back-office functions (trade support, settlements, reconciliations, cash management, performance, accounting, etc.)
Demonstrated experience modernizing legacy reporting or operational tools
Advanced experience with Power BI (data modeling, DAX) and SQL
Strong understanding of relational data models and large operational datasets (positions, transactions, performance)
Ability to analyze ambiguous processes and translate them into structured, supportable solutions
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with Technology partners and Operations leadership
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and pragmatic in execution
5+ years of relevant experience is required
Nice to Have
Experience working with SimCorp
Python experience (especially supporting analytical or reporting tools)
Experience with workflow or BPM tools (TIBCO preferred)
Exposure to performance reporting, attribution, or after-tax reporting
Understanding of operational risk, controls, and audit considerations
Familiarity with dashboarding for operational or management audiences
Experience in fixed income, trade operations, portfolio accounting, or investment operations.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent practical experience.

Base Salary Range:
$130,000- $160,000
Annual Performance Bonus:
This role is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus
IR+M operates in a hybrid model. This role requires on-site presence 3 days a week.
