Looking for an Assistant Vice President, Stop Loss Actuary. This is a high-impact, individual contributor and team leadership role for a seasoned medical stop loss subject matter expert with deep expertise in pricing and hands-on valuation experience.

You will serve as a key technical leader within the actuarial function, driving pricing strategy, developing and refining valuation methodologies, and partnering cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, sales, reinsurance, and senior leadership to ensure the continued profitability and growth of the stop loss book of business.

    Pricing Leadership

    • Develop and execute stop loss pricing strategy and targets; present recommendations to senior management and collaborate with underwriting and sales on execution.
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of actuarial pricing models, assumptions, and rate-setting methodologies for employer stop loss products.
    • Lead rate and experience studies to analyze loss ratio performance, identify underperforming segments, and develop dashboards to communicate results to management.
    • Provide subject matter expertise on complex or high-visibility cases and support peers through mentoring and training.

    Valuation & Reserving

    • Interpret financial metrics, analyze performance drivers, develop reserving methodologies and assumptions, and communicate results and recommendations to senior management and auditors.
    • Oversee actuarial models and assumptions for valuation and forecasting, ensuring actuarial soundness and compliance with regulatory and financial reporting standards.
    • Support monthly and quarterly financial close processes, including IBNR development and reserve adequacy analysis.

    What We're Looking For

    • FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation required; MAAA preferred.
    • 10+ years of progressive actuarial experience with deep specialization in medical stop loss pricing.
    • Demonstrated expertise as a stop loss subject matter expert, with a strong command of pricing methodologies, manual rate development, aggregate factors, and risk selection.
    • Hands-on valuation and reserving experience, including IBNR, loss development, and financial reporting.
    • Strong understanding of reinsurance structures, financials, and treaty negotiation.
    • Experience leading and mentoring actuarial teams in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex actuarial concepts to senior leadership, underwriting, and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in actuarial modeling tools, SQL, Excel, and data visualization platforms.
