Base Salary: $120k - $150k + Bonus

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client, a growing commercial banking institution, is seeking an Assistant Vice President Underwriter & Portfolio Manager to join its Credit Risk team in New York. This role is responsible for underwriting new commercial lending transactions and managing an existing portfolio of primarily asset-based and cash flow lending relationships.

Working closely with Relationship Managers and senior credit leadership, this individual will perform comprehensive credit analysis, present transactions for approval, and provide ongoing portfolio oversight throughout the life of each credit.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Underwrite new commercial lending transactions, with a primary focus on asset-based and cash flow lending.
  • Perform detailed due diligence on borrowers, sponsors, guarantors, collateral, industries, and market conditions.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memoranda and present credit recommendations to internal credit committees.
  • Review loan documentation to ensure consistency with approved credit terms and conditions, including amendments, waivers, and restructurings.
  • Monitor borrower financial performance, covenant compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing portfolio management, including quarterly, semi-annual, and annual credit reviews.
  • Identify emerging credit risks and proactively recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain complete and accurate credit files in preparation for internal audits, loan reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers and senior credit professionals to support sound credit decision-making and portfolio quality.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • Minimum five years in commercial lending, credit underwriting, and portfolio management. (ABL, Cash-Flow, and other asset-based experience a plus.)
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and financial modeling.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable insights.
