Title: AWS Cloud Engineer
Pay : $35-40/HR on W2
Location: Remote - Raleigh, NC 27615
Key Responsibilities
AWS Region Transfer, Primary Project
• Lead planning and execution of AWS region transfer activities across web platform environments.
• Assess the current AWS infrastructure and identify migration dependencies, risks, sequencing needs, and rollback considerations.
• Coordinate region transfer activities across development, staging, and production environments.
• Validate application functionality, infrastructure performance, DNS behavior, SSL/TLS configuration, security controls, backups, and monitoring after transfer.
• Create clear documentation for architecture, dependencies, technical decisions, validation steps, and cutover support.
• Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to minimize downtime, reduce operational risk, and maintain business continuity.
AWS Infrastructure Administration
• Support AWS-hosted web application environments, including EC2, VPCs, security groups, IAM, Route53, CloudWatch, S3, backups, and load balancers.
• Review AWS configurations and recommend improvements for security, maintainability, scalability, monitoring, and cost awareness.
• Troubleshoot server performance, connectivity, capacity, availability, and environment consistency issues.
• Make proactive AWS infrastructure updates as needed.
DevOps, Bitbucket, and Automation
• Support the Bitbucket migration from external vendors to internal ownership and help standardize repository workflows.
• Design, write, and maintain Bitbucket Pipelines for deployment, validation, and operational automation.
• Build or improve CI/CD processes for safer and more consistent application deployments.
• Write scripts using Bash, Python, or similar tools to automate repeatable operational tasks.
• Document deployment processes, pipeline logic, release dependencies, and support procedures.
Server Administration, Hardening, and Technical Advisory
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based web hosting environments.
• Evaluate server-level recommendations and explain the technical purpose, risks, and implement considerations to non-infrastructure stakeholders.
• Support server-hardening efforts, OS patching, vulnerability remediation, SSH configuration, SSL/TLS configuration, and access-control improvements.
• Provide guidance on PHP-FPM, Apache, NGINX, memory allocation, CPU utilization, log analysis, and capacity planning.
• Review vendor recommendations, challenge assumptions when needed, and advise whether proposed changes are appropriate for the environment.
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in AWS infrastructure engineering, DevOps, cloud operations, or a closely related role.
• Strong hands-on experience managing AWS production environments.
• Experience with EC2, IAM, security groups, VPCs, Route53, CloudWatch, S3, and application load balancers.
• Strong Linux system administration experience, including server troubleshooting, patching, log review, access control, and performance tuning.
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably in Bitbucket Pipelines.
• Strong Git and repository management experience.
• Ability to write practical automation scripts using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
• Experience supporting web application hosting environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain infrastructure concepts clearly to web, vendor, security, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with AWS region-to-region transfers or cloud migration projects.
• Experience supporting PHP-based applications or WordPress hosting environments.
• Familiarity with Apache, NGINX, PHP-FPM, SSL/TLS certificates, DNS, and CDN-related infrastructure.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with server hardening, vulnerability remediation, and enterprise security requirements.
• Experience working with managed hosting providers, external agencies, and cross-functional enterprise teams.
Expected Deliverables
• AWS region transfer plan, including dependencies, sequencing, validation steps, risk areas, and rollback guidance.
• Completed or substantially advanced AWS region transfer execution across agreed environments.
• Documented AWS architecture, environment inventory, and infrastructure dependencies.
