We have a 1-year hybrid (must be onsite once monthly), AWS SME contract, that may be extended by our client, in Jackson, MS. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled AWS expert to support and develop a mature AWS multi-account environment built on AWS Control Tower. This role is central to strengthening internal cloud capabilities, supporting enterprise cloud adoption, and helping establish a Cloud Center of Excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on cloud architect with deep AWS expertise, strong troubleshooting skills, and a passion for mentoring and enabling others.

Key Responsibilities

AWS Environment Management

Oversee and maintain a multi-account AWS Organization built on AWS Control Tower.

Ensure cloud infrastructure aligns with industry best practices for reliability, scalability, and governance.


Cloud Architecture & Engineering

Design, review, and implement secure, scalable AWS solutions for enterprise and partner teams.

Support cloud adoption initiatives and modernization efforts across multiple environments.


Troubleshooting & Support

Serve as senior escalation point for complex AWS issues, including network and connectivity challenges.

Collaborate across infrastructure, security, and application teams to identify root causes and implement remediation strategies.


Security & Governance

Partner with security stakeholders to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Implement and enforce cloud governance policies, including identity, access, and network segmentation controls.


Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration

Work with cloud service providers and third-party vendors to integrate services into the broader ecosystem.

Translate technical requirements into actionable solutions for both technical and non-technical audiences.


Mentorship & Documentation

Mentor technical staff and help build internal cloud expertise.

Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational playbooks.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of key AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Experience leading cloud migrations or implementations in a complex multi-account environment
  • Strong network troubleshooting abilities to help resolve connectivity issues both inside the AWS cloud environment and ingressing/egressing to the State's on premises environment.
  • Familiarity with AWS Landing Zone implementations and management using AWS Landing Zone Accelerator.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS CDK) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience implementing security best practices (e.g., IAM policies, encryption, network segmentation, and SCPs).
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles, containerization (Docker, ECS, EKS), and serverless architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities across networking, storage, and compute layers in AWS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven experience mentoring staff and fostering a collaborative, learning-focused environment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead architectural reviews and navigate ambiguity in designing solutions to complex business problems


Desirable Qualifications

  • AWS Professional-level certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional).
  • Experience in a government or highly regulated environment (e.g., HIPAA, CJIS, IRS 1075 compliance).
  • Knowledge of ITIL, project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, Agile), and enterprise IT governance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with other public cloud providers and hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Working knowledge of common scripting/programming languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
