Job Title: Cloud Engineer

Duration: 12-month contract-to-hire

Location: Remote

Required Pay Scale: $65-$80/hr

Job Summary:

The Cloud Engineer designs, deploys, automates, secures, and supports application infrastructure on the Microsoft Azure platform. This role partners closely with development, architecture, security, and operations teams to review Azure landing-zone architecture, provision cloud infrastructure through Terraform, implement monitoring and alerting, and maintain reliable production environments. The Cloud Engineer will also support infrastructure troubleshooting, disaster recovery, performance optimization, documentation, and continuous improvement across the cloud environment.

Project Details:

Project Description & Tech Stack: Review and enhance Azure landing-zone infrastructure supporting enterprise applications. Design and provision Azure compute, networking, application, data, and storage services while ensuring security, reliability, scalability, and operational readiness. Daily work includes Terraform development, Azure infrastructure deployment, monitoring and alert configuration, CI/CD automation, production troubleshooting, performance analysis, and technical documentation. Tools and technologies include Microsoft Azure, Terraform, Azure DevOps, Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Azure App Service, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Storage, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, Microsoft Sentinel, identity and access management, and CI/CD pipelines.

Project Goal / Current Phase: Build, enhance, and operationalize secure Azure infrastructure for enterprise applications. The project is currently focused on reviewing the landing-zone foundation, deploying application infrastructure, strengthening monitoring and security controls, improving automation, and preparing platforms for reliable production support.

Project Type: Azure cloud implementation, infrastructure enhancement, Infrastructure as Code automation, monitoring and observability, security and compliance, disaster recovery, performance optimization, and production support.

Must Haves

• Recent hands-on experience as an Azure Cloud Engineer, Infrastructure Operations Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or similar cloud infrastructure professional
• Strong production experience designing, deploying, and supporting infrastructure on Microsoft Azure
• Experience reviewing, building, or enhancing Azure landing zones
• Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, including reusable modules and automated deployments
• Experience with Azure services including Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Azure App Service, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Storage
• Experience implementing monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, and/or Microsoft Sentinel
• Experience with Azure cloud security, including identity and access management, RBAC, least privilege, encryption, network security, and secure configuration practices
• Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation using Azure DevOps
• Experience developing and supporting backup, retention, restoration, high-availability, and disaster-recovery strategies
• Strong production troubleshooting skills across compute, networking, identity, storage, application infrastructure, and performance
• Experience creating infrastructure documentation, operational procedures, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides
• Experience working with development, architecture, security, and operations teams in an Agile or Scrum environment
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Desired Skills

• Experience with FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST 800-53, and/or Zero Trust Architecture
• Experience with Azure Policy, Microsoft Entra ID, Key Vault, Managed Identity, Conditional Access, and private endpoints
• Experience with Terraform remote-state management, pull-request workflows, deployment approvals, and infrastructure drift detection
• Experience with Azure Backup and Azure Site Recovery
• Experience creating KQL queries, dashboards, workbooks, and actionable infrastructure alerts
• Experience supporting cloud infrastructure in financial services, government, healthcare, or another regulated industry
• Experience with performance optimization, capacity planning, cost optimization, and resource right-sizing
• Experience providing technical support during application deployment and ongoing production operations
