Description

Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire a Back Country First Aid Instructor. This is a part-time faculty, union, exempt, and non-benefits-eligible position. This role requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends. Travel may be required at a reimbursed rate (based on college travel policy).

This is a part-time faculty pool for available assignments during the academic year. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on department need. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Instructs students in both indoor and outdoor classroom(s). Provides student contact before and after class and by telephone, video conferencing, scheduled meetings or email exchanges where facilities and schedules permit.
  • Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate; incorporates the latest classroom technology when available and appropriate to instructional activities.
  • Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students for each course.
  • Understands, develops and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity within the college community.
  • Responsible for classroom and departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
  • Understands and abides by college policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required by the college, departments or divisions.
  • Convenes classes on time and as scheduled.
  • Maintains evaluation and grading records for assigned students; enters grades and provides all necessary documentation for incompletes within established college timelines and guidelines.
  • Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices.
  • Understands and uses the college's computer system.

AUXILIARY FUNCTIONS:

  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. Perform field exercises in a safe and orderly manner.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Part-time instructors qualify to teach Wilderness & Back Country First Aid courses for CEU by having past experience and expertise in one or more of the following subjects:

  • Wilderness Survival

  • Wilderness First Aid

  • Search and Rescue

  • One year teaching experience or two years practical experience.

  • Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives and abilities.

  • Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.

Our Wilderness & Back Country First Aid instructors must have at least one of the following to be certified through our certification body; ASHI-America Safety & Health Institute:

  • AAP instructor

  • AHA instructor

  • American Red Cross instructor

  • Academic Degree in Medicine

  • Certified EMS or Fire instructor

  • Certified Emergency Nurses Association instructor

  • DAN instructor

  • Certified Law Enforcement instructor

  • Certified Teacher

  • Certified Mine Safety & Health Administration instructor

  • Certified National Traffic Safety Institute instructor

  • Certified Scuba Diving instructor

  • ECSI/AAOS instructor

  • EFR instructor

  • ILTP instructor

  • NSC instructor

  • Military Training Instructor

  • NOLS/WMI instructor

  • NSP instructor

  • OSHA authorized trainer

  • SAI instructor

  • SOLO instructor

  • WMA instructor

  • YMCA lifeguard instructor

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the use of step stools in order to retrieve archived materials. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc., and rarely requires moving materials weighing over 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITION:

Work location will be both classroom and field exercises at off campus locations. Will be exposed to weather conditions and forest environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general direction of the Director.
