This role represents the Operator in the kitchen and sets the tone for urgency, discipline, teamwork, and care.

As a Shift Leader, you oversee BOH operations including food prep, cooking, batching, packaging, and kitchen organization. You direct Team Members in real time, maintain smooth kitchen flow, and ensure a clean, safe, organized environment. You coach, reinforce standards, and step in as needed to support the shift.

This fast-paced role requires strong communication, situational awareness, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Successful Shift Leaders lead with urgency and accuracy while maintaining high standards for food quality, safety, and teamwork every shift.

Role

The Back of House Shift Leader at Chick-fil-A Oregon is responsible for leading the kitchen operations during assigned shifts. They ensure food is prepared safely, efficiently, and according to Chick-fil-A standards. This leader directs team members, maintains organization, ensures cleanliness, and helps the kitchen operate smoothly and effectively. They model servant leadership by supporting their team, solving problems, and maintaining a positive, encouraging atmosphere under pressure.

Availability

• Minimum availability of 20+ hours/week
• Minimum Full-Time Availability: 32+ hours a week

Pay Rate

•  $17 – 19/ hour

Exact rate depends on availability and experience.

What you will be doing

Operational Focus

• Lead BOH operations during assigned shifts, ensuring efficiency, quality, and food safety.
• Maintain proper food presentation, portioning, and temperature standards.
• Coordinate kitchen flow to meet speed of service and throughput goals.
• Ensure accurate and timely food preparation for both front counter and drive-thru.
• Oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring readiness for the next shift.
• Monitor food inventory and communicate needs to leadership.
• Ensure compliance with all Chick-fil-A operational standards and procedures.

Team Development

• Lead, coach, and encourage BOH Team Members to perform at their best.
• Train team members on food safety, equipment usage, and efficiency techniques.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and a culture of excellence.
• Provide real-time feedback and reinforce positive behaviors.
• Support onboarding and skill development of new hires.

Food Safety & Cleanliness

• Ensure all health, safety, and sanitation standards are upheld.
• Maintain clean and organized kitchen areas, prep stations, and storage spaces.
• Follow all local and Chick-fil-A food safety protocols.
• Oversee daily and weekly cleaning checklists.

Communication & Problem Solving

• Communicate clearly with the Front of House and leadership to ensure seamless operations.
• Address issues calmly and quickly, maintaining a positive tone under pressure.
• Provide timely feedback and report shift performance or concerns to leadership.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old upon hire
• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Must have reliable transportation
• Prior experience in kitchen operations, food preparation, or restaurant leadership.
• Knowledge of food safety practices and kitchen organization.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Dependable, punctual, and committed to consistent performance.
• Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Physically able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
