Backend Engineer 0626

We are seeking a Backend & Cloud Engineer to help build and maintain a proprietary technology platform that connects cloud services, mobile applications, and connected hardware systems. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and securing backend services and cloud infrastructure while supporting the delivery of scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions.

Working within a small, collaborative engineering team, you will contribute to system architecture, backend development, cloud operations, and technical leadership while helping guide external development resources and supporting product growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems using modern Java-based technologies.
• Architect, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure, databases, and integrations between software platforms and connected devices.
• Build and maintain data processing pipelines for device-generated and operational data.
• Implement and manage authentication, authorization, access controls, and overall platform security best practices.
• Own CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, source control workflows, and release processes.
• Translate technical requirements into production-grade software solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, mentorship, and guidance to internal and external engineering contributors.
• Support architecture planning, technical documentation, system validation, and cross-functional collaboration.

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Java-based frameworks and cloud technologies.
• Strong experience designing APIs, service-oriented architectures, and scalable backend systems.
• Professional experience with Java and/or Kotlin in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and containerized application deployment.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including performance optimization and security best practices.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, identity management, and messaging technologies.
• Experience building reliable, fault-tolerant systems and troubleshooting application and infrastructure performance issues.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based development workflows, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience integrating software systems with external devices, hardware platforms, or other complex third-party systems.
• Experience working in highly regulated, quality-focused, or mission-critical environments.
• Previous experience mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, or overseeing external development resources.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to work onsite full-time.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience with modern identity and access management frameworks.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native application design.
• Experience optimizing PostgreSQL or other enterprise database platforms.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and scripting languages.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
