Job Summary
The Bakery & Beverage Clerk supports the Bakery Lead in meeting department sales and profit goals while delivering welcoming, high-quality customer experience. This cross-trained role works across key service areas, including bakery operations, coffee and juice bar service, and Home Meal Replacement (HMR) meal preparation and assembly. As a frequent first point of contact for customers, the Bakery & Beverage Clerk helps maintain a clean, organized, efficient, and customer-focused department.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service, including handling difficult situations and resolving customer concerns, with supervisor assistance as needed.
- Follow approved procedures for receiving, pricing, stocking, rotating, and merchandising products to ensure accuracy, freshness, and quality.
- Prepare, package, decorate (as assigned), and stock bakery products.
- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based beverages, smoothies, fresh juices, and other specialty beverages according to established recipes and food safety standards.
- Prepare, assemble, package, and merchandise Home Meal Replacement (HMR) items, including ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat meals, sandwiches, salads, and grab-and-go offerings while maintaining quality and presentation standards.
- Replenish ingredients, supplies, condiments, and packaging materials for the bakery, beverage, and HMR stations.
- Maintain beverage equipment, display cases, prep stations, and work areas in a clean and sanitary condition.
- Transport products to preparation, display, or storage areas, including refrigerated storage.
- Maintain inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and proper turnover while minimizing out-of-stock and overstock conditions.
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
- Maintain an attractive, clean, organized, and customer-friendly department.
- Comply with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Follow all local, state, and federal health regulations and food handling requirements.
- Adhere to all state, county, and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
- Report malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of promotions, featured products, and store policies to assist customers effectively.
- Report unsafe conditions and suspicious activities to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
- Basic math and cash handling procedures.
- Customer service best practices.
- Proper food handling, sanitation, storage, and food safety procedures.
- Familiarity with bakery products, ingredients, recipes, and preparation techniques.
- Basic knowledge of coffee, espresso, specialty beverages, fresh juices, and grab-and-go meal preparation is preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
- Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and lifting.
- Operate bakery equipment, beverage equipment, and POS systems safely.
- Work in environments with varying temperatures, including hot ovens, beverage equipment, refrigerated cases, and freezers.
- Maintain manual dexterity for food preparation, beverage preparation, packaging, and cash handling.
- Maintain visual attention to product quality and food presentation.
- Communicate clearly with customers and team members.
- Maintain stamina to work efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.

- Regular handling of bakery products, coffee, fresh produce, meal ingredients, dairy products, and other food items.
- Exposure to common food allergens including wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, and other ingredients.
Dress Code
- Professional appearance as determined by store management.
- Company-issued apparel or approved attire.
- Hair restraint as required.
- Non-slip, safety-toe shoes required.
Exposure
- Bakery equipment, espresso machines, blenders, juicers, hot surfaces, sharp utensils, and approved cleaning chemicals.
Noise Level
- Moderate to high due to bakery equipment, beverage equipment, refrigeration systems, and customer activity.
Interaction
- Frequent interaction with customers and collaboration with team members in a fast-paced retail environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
- Previous customer service, food service, coffee shop, bakery, deli, or retail experience is preferred.
