Position Overview

The Banquet Cook is responsible for the preparation and execution of high-quality food for banquet and catering events at the Nittany Lion Inn. This role supports a high-volume, fast-paced environment while maintaining exceptional culinary standards, consistency, and presentation. The Banquet Cook works collaboratively with the culinary and banquet teams to ensure seamless event execution and an elevated guest experience.

Essential Functions

Food Preparation & Execution

  • Prepare and cook menu items for banquets, meetings, weddings, and special events in accordance with established recipes and standards.
  • Execute high-volume production while maintaining consistency, quality, and presentation.
  • Assist with plating and timely service during events, ensuring all food is delivered at proper temperature and appearance.
  • Follow all prep lists and production schedules as directed by culinary leadership.

Event Support

  • Collaborate with Banquet Chefs and culinary leadership to execute events efficiently and on time.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and replenishment of banquet food stations and buffets.
  • Adapt quickly to last-minute changes in guest counts, menus, or timing.

Food Safety & Sanitation

  • Maintain strict adherence to all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Ensure proper food handling, labeling, storage, and rotation (FIFO).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.

Kitchen Operations

  • Assist with receiving and proper storage of food deliveries as needed.
  • Maintain organization of walk-ins, freezers, and dry storage areas.
  • Minimize waste and support cost control initiatives.
  • Ensure all equipment is used safely and maintained properly.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of culinary experience; banquet or high-volume experience preferred.
  • Culinary degree or formal training preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event needs.
