Job Description

The Hotel Indigo Austin Downtown – University and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Downtown – University are seeking enthusiastic, service-driven, and dependable On-Call Banquet Servers to join our Food & Beverage team.

The On-Call Banquet Server is responsible for providing exceptional food and beverage service during meetings, receptions, banquets, weddings, and other special events. This position plays an important role in creating memorable guest experiences through attentive service, professional presentation, and teamwork.

This is an on-call position, with shifts scheduled based on banquet and event business levels. Hours may vary from week to week, and candidates must have flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and event details to understand service expectations, menu selections, timing, and room setup.
  • Assist with the setup of banquet and meeting spaces, including tables, chairs, linens, glassware, silverware, china, buffets, beverage stations, and other event materials.
  • Greet guests in a warm, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Serve food and beverages promptly and professionally in accordance with established service standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of menu items, ingredients, beverage selections, and event-specific service requirements.
  • Refill beverages and anticipate guest needs throughout each event.
  • Clear plates, glassware, silverware, and other service items throughout and following banquet functions.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked banquet service areas.
  • Communicate effectively with Banquet Leadership, Culinary, and fellow team members to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests and communicate concerns to a supervisor when necessary.
  • Assist with event breakdown, cleanup, room resets, and preparation for upcoming functions.
  • Follow all hotel standards, food safety requirements, sanitation procedures, and responsible alcohol service requirements.
  • Handle hotel equipment, supplies, and property responsibly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational and event needs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Previous banquet, restaurant, catering, or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Strong guest service and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and Banquet Event Orders.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to adapt to changing event needs.
  • Food Handler and/or TABC certification preferred or must be obtained as required.
  • Must be flexible and available to work a varied schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The Banquet Server must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout a shift. The position requires frequent bending, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, and lifting associated with banquet setup and service. Associates must also be comfortable carrying trays, banquet equipment, tables, chairs, and service items as required.
