Job Title: Barista

Job Description

This role prepares and serves high-quality specialty coffee and tea while delivering warm, attentive service to both new and regular guests. The barista maintains a clean and safe workspace, follows established recipes and presentation standards, and supports a positive, team-oriented environment during busy shifts.


Responsibilities


+ Prepare and serve specialty coffee and tea beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, and custom espresso drinks, according to established recipes and standards.

+ Engage with new and regular customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide outstanding customer service throughout their visit.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized workstation at all times, including equipment, counters, and customer-facing areas.

+ Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling, sanitation, and equipment use.

+ Adhere consistently to recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards for all food and beverage items.

+ Manage and prioritize tasks efficiently during busy shifts while maintaining accuracy and quality.

+ Arrive on time and maintain regular, consistent attendance to support reliable operations.

+ Contribute to a positive team environment by communicating clearly, supporting coworkers, and fostering a collaborative atmosphere.

+ Handle customer questions and concerns with professionalism and care, escalating issues when appropriate.

+ Participate in event-based or additional shifts as needed, particularly for afternoon or evening events.


Essential Skills


+ At least 1+ year of experience in the coffee service industry.

+ 2+ years of experience in the customer service industry.

+ Previous experience working at a major chain coffee shop such as Starbucks, Pete's Coffee, or a similar concept.

+ Hands-on barista experience, including preparing specialty drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, and custom espresso beverages.

+ Experience with specialty or third wave coffee of at least 1 year.

+ Proven ability to work comfortably and efficiently during busy shifts.

+ Strong customer service skills with a friendly, outgoing, and service-oriented demeanor.

+ Ability to follow recipes and presentation standards accurately and consistently.

+ Reliability and punctuality, with the ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.

+ Attention to detail and a strong focus on product quality and consistency.

+ Ability to maintain a tidy, organized, and self-disciplined work style.

Work Environment


The role is based in a San Francisco location with a micro kitchen and a notable view of the city. The position starts as a contractor-to-hire arrangement and becomes union-based upon direct hire. The environment is described as a cool, energetic space where free coffee, snacks, and drinks are available. The dress code is typical of a professional café setting, emphasizing cleanliness and tidiness while allowing for comfortable movement during busy shifts.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
