POSITION TITLE:Instructional AssistantQUALIFICATIONS:Demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.High school graduate.64 college credit hours or pass the Para Educator test for all instructional assistants.Must be able to lift and/or carry a 50lb. student.REPORTS TO:Teacher/PrincipalJOB GOAL:To provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.RESPONSIBILITIES:Under supervision of certified teacher, prepares for classroom activities.Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.Assists individual children in need of special attention.Perform clerical duties.Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.Sets up audio-visual equipment.Assists teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack, toilet, and clothing routines.Checks notebooks, corrects papers and make-up work.Assists in drill work.Assists with reading and storytelling.Assists small groups of students in the library.Participates in in-service training programs.Other tasks that may be assigned.EVALUATION:Annually by Teacher and Principal.
