Position Overview

Morehouse Parish School District is seeking a highly qualified and student-centered Special Education Self-Contained Teacher to serve students with diverse learning and behavioral needs at Bastrop High School. The ideal candidate will provide standards-aligned, individualized instruction in a structured, supportive setting while fostering academic growth, functional independence, and social-emotional development. The teacher will ensure compliance with IDEA, LDOE, and BESE requirements, including IEP implementation.

Employment Details

Employment Type: Full-Time 9-Month Contract

Salary: In accordance with the MPSD Teacher Pay Scale and applicable state guidelines

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instruction for students with disabilities
  • Develop and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies
  • Implement behavior supports including BIPs and PBIS
  • Monitor student progress and maintain documentation
  • Collaborate with staff and participate in IEP meetings
  • Maintain a safe and structured classroom environment
  • Engage families and support transition planning

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Louisiana Special Education Teaching Certificate or eligibility through LDOE
  • Knowledge of IDEA and IEP processes
  • Experience with behavior management strategies
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to student success and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field
  • Experience in self-contained classroom setting
  • Experience with FBAs, BIPs, and SEL strategies
  • Experience in Title I schools
  • Training in de-escalation and crisis prevention
  • Participation in PLCs
