Reliance One, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Battery Cell Manufacturing Engineer to support our client's Battery Cell Department. This role focuses on leading pre-production trial activities, driving problem-solving initiatives, and supporting continuous improvement efforts within advanced battery manufacturing operations.


Position Overview

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this individual will support engineering solutions that improve manufacturing competitiveness through safety, people development, and customer focus. The role will lead issue resolution efforts, support process improvements, and contribute to organizational capability development through the advancement of Ryohin Joken principles and manufacturing excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and problem-solving efforts during pre-production trial activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with equipment, manufacturing, and engineering teams
  • Investigate and resolve material, product, and process-related issues both internally and externally
  • Develop and implement trial plans for issue confirmation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Create detailed technical reports and summary documentation to support organizational learning
  • Provide input into process and equipment plans for kaizen and prevention of issue recurrence
  • Advance systems and procedures for problem-solving, learning capture, and continuous improvement
  • Manage individual project activities, status reporting, and progress tracking
  • Support departmental Hoshin objectives and standardization initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners
  • Drive personal development while seeking feedback and continuous growth opportunities


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related technical field, OR 5+ years of equivalent engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in manufacturing production preparation, project scheduling, equipment planning, procurement, installation, and trial execution
  • 2+ years required
  • 4+ years preferred
  • Experience with battery cell products, manufacturing processes, equipment, and/or trial activities
  • 3+ years required
  • 5+ years preferred
  • Experience with Ryohin Joken identification, application, and confirmation activities
  • Experience working within large corporate organizations and collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to interpret and apply product/process specifications and engineering drawings
  • Ability to work weekends, shutdown periods, overtime (up to 25%), and travel domestically/internationally up to 25%


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Toyota Production System (TPS) methodologies
  • Experience in simultaneous product and process/equipment engineering for new model launches
  • Problem-solving certifications or methodologies such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP) or Fault Tree Analysis
  • Experience in manufacturing plant operations
  • Experience with data analytics and digital engineering tools
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify model data
  • Japanese language proficiency (written and verbal) is a plus
