Job Description:

Summary:

We seek a qualified Teaching Assistant to help with Battleground Michigan class (COMM-420/620-GOVT-496/696 ) which will be taught in Fall 2026. The ideal candidate will have experience with the Battleground/campaign field class format and must be available to attend class throughout the Fall (Tuesdays 5:30-8:00 pm) as well as travel with the class to Michigan for the field period (Friday Oct 31 - Wednesday November 4; all travel expenses will be paid). The TA will be compensated a $2,500 stipend.

Essential Functions:

• Support instructors by helping prepare and organize class materials, including organizing readings, briefing presentations (Powerpoints, etc) and assignment descriptions.

• Support the needs of the class during the field period with logistics, including things like catering orders and transportation arrangements.

• Be a lead point of contact for coordinating arrangements of guest speakers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• Part-time.

• 5 hours per week.

Salary Range:

• $2,500 stipend.

Required Education and Experience:

• Must be a currently enrolled graduate or undergraduate student with a program focus/major in SPA or SOC.

• Should have academic experience with Battleground/campaign class format, and work/internship experience in the area of campaigns and elections as well as demonstrated organizational skills handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

• All AU students are eligible to apply for this position, with a preference for those students with a Federal Work Study award.
