Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Location: Willie Jeffries School of Excellence, Mevers School of Excellence, Berkeley Preparatory Academy

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt 

Reports To: SPED Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) supports students, families, and school teams across BCEA schools by designing, implementing, and monitoring behavior intervention plans and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. The BCBA collaborates with educators and ESE teams to promote positive student behavior, reduce barriers to learning, and ensure compliance with IEP/504 plans. This role enhances academic and social-emotional success for students with behavioral, developmental, or learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Implement ABA strategies and oversee their application in classroom and school settings.

  • Provide professional development and training for teachers, School Operations Administrators, paraprofessionals, and support staff on behavioral interventions and data collection.

  • Monitor student progress through data collection, review, and analysis to ensure fidelity of implementation.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support students with autism, developmental delays, and other behavioral challenges.

  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and 504 meetings, contributing behavior analytic expertise.

  • Coach staff on effective behavior management techniques and de-escalation strategies.

  • Provide crisis intervention support and guidance aligned with school-wide behavioral expectations.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding behavioral services.

  • Supervise Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) or paraprofessionals as applicable.

  • Thorough knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and practices.

  • Ability to design and implement effective interventions based on student-specific needs.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in school settings and working collaboratively with diverse teams.

  • Understanding of IDEA, Section 504, and educational policies affecting behavioral services.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field.

  • Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification in good standing.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and adolescents with behavioral needs.

  • Experience conducting FBAs and developing/implementing BIPs in educational settings.

  • Experience working in public charter schools or urban school settings.

  • Familiarity with multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

Physical Requirements 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work Environment

This position operates in a professional school environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and instructional materials. Noise level is typically moderate, but can be higher during student-centered activities or events. Occasional local travel for school-related functions may be required.

This position is classified as Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is in accordance with applicable federal and South Carolina labor laws.
