Description

Currently two positions open, one servicing DeSoto County and the other servicing Charlotte County, these roles will work within multiple sites in each county

The Beacons Program Assistant supports the daily operations of the Beacons Program. This role helps create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for students, families, and community members. The assistant works closely with program staff to deliver college and career readiness activities to prepare students for life after high school.

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a motivated, relationship-driven person to support Beacons program sites (Desoto HS, Charlotte HS and Cooper St. YMCA) and support the Rise Up Academy Director through administrative duties and community partnerships. This role ensures quality delivery of college and career readiness, leadership development, and academic support activities for high school students.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Student Support: Assist to engage, connect, and promote academic success through college and career readiness activities.
  • Program Operations: Help set up activity spaces, manage attendance, and maintain supplies.
  • Family & Community Engagement: Support events, workshops, and communication with parents/guardians.
  • Safety & Supervision: Monitor students during program hours, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with record-keeping, data entry, reporting requirements, booking events, scheduling activities, etc.
  • Collaboration: Work with school staff, school support coordinator, community partners, and volunteers to deliver high-quality experiences to youth.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association's policies on background screening
  • Professional appearance and behavior
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Positive attitude
  • Must be a self-starter, with high energy and a positive attitude
  • Certifications and Training Requirements:
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required
  • Completion of YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class
  • Completion of the YMCA's Blood Borne Pathogens training
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • As recommended by Supervisor, additional training classes
