Before & After School Counselor

Make a difference every day. Build friendships. Create unforgettable memories.

At the YMCA of Central & Northern Westchester, we're more than an after-school program—we're a place where children learn, grow, and thrive. Serving families across 66 zip codes in Westchester and Putnam counties, we're looking for energetic, caring individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of children.

Whether you're a college student, aspiring teacher, future social worker, or simply love working with kids, this is an opportunity to gain valuable experience while having fun every day.

What You'll Do

As a Before & After School Counselor, you'll help create a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment where every child feels supported and excited to learn.

You'll:

  • Build positive relationships with children through games, activities, and daily interactions.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants while maintaining NYS OCFS supervision standards.
  • Lead and participate in fun, enriching activities that encourage creativity, teamwork, and confidence.
  • Help create an inclusive environment where every child feels valued and respected.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating kindness, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
  • Support the Site Leader in the daily operation of the program.

Why You'll Love Working at the Y

  • Flexible schedules that work around school or other commitments.
  • Convenient locations throughout Westchester and Putnam counties.
  • Paid training and professional development opportunities.
  • Gain valuable leadership and childcare experience.
  • Perfect for college students, education majors, and anyone considering a career working with children.
  • Be part of a supportive team that makes a real difference every day.

What We're Looking For

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (or currently working toward one).
  • Experience working with children under 13 is preferred.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children learn, grow, and have fun.
