Job Summary

DEFINITION Under the direction of the Director of Special Education and under general supervision, performs a variety of paraprofessional duties supporting the instructional program for special education. Assists in implementing, and establishing, behavior support plans and objectives, as described in the Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences for an individual or small group of students in assigned programs. Assist staff and students in establishing behavioral goals and objectives. Performs supportive clerical tasks for district, staff, and students; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Positions assigned to this class may be dispersed in a variety of school settings. Incumbents are expected to learn student behavior, supervision and instructional techniques for the specific area of school service to which assigned. Duties encompass a wide range of supportive tasks for students and staff in the behavior intervention program.

Requirements / Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Possess Registered Behavior Technician certification or provide proof of active course work, to obtain certification. Current CPI certification. * Knowledge of a variety of special needs, including Autism, emotional and behavioral disorders. Experience: One year of paid experience working with multi-age groups of children. Experience in working with diverse populations including students with behavior plans. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and one of the following: 1) completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester units); 2) obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or 3) met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness). LICENSE REQUIREMENT Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator s License. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT Insurability by the agency's liability insurance carrier.
