Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist/Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Salary Schedule Range: 73
Purpose of Position: To provide behavior analysis and behavior management plans for special education students enrolled in educational programs, and to provide support and professional learning to school site staff, paraeducators, and parents/guardians in appropriate behavior intervention techniques
Reports To: An assigned supervisor
Employment Status: Full-time (FLSA non-exempt)
Location: Special Education
Essential Functions:
Develop materials and provide resources and deliver professional learning to administrators, certificated teachers, paraeducators, and parents/guardians in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), and other evidence-based methodologies related to serving the needs of students with behavior difficulties.
Conduct behavioral and functional assessments and develop plans that conform to IDEA and California Education Code.
Plan and oversee the development and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices related to instruction using the principles of ABA for students with autism and other disabilities.
Assist District staff with development and implementation of behavior plans, ABA programs and other appropriate programs for students with autism and/or other disabilities that present behavior or learning challenges.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Other Functions:
Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
Indoor and outdoor work environments with some exposure to weather; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment; bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, or reaching above the head to store or retrieve materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to perform work and read printed materials, lifting to 25 pounds; potential exposure to students displaying physically aggressive, self-abusive or socially undesirable behavior.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work at various District locations or student homes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the laws, protocols, and practices related to special education students in a K-12 public school setting.
Ability to collect data and prepare a variety of reports for the purpose of documenting case histories, assessments, treatments and medical billing.
Ability to supervise BCBA candidates within the District.
Ability to assist students transitioning from alternative to regular school programs.
Ability to work with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with such students.
Ability to establish rapport and work constructively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Education, Training and Experience:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience working as a behavior or autism specialist.
Additional Requirements:
Valid California Class C driver's license.
Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification (BCBA).
ABA or similar research-based experience and training.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish desirable.
