POSITION SUMMARY:
To efficiently and effectively manage student behaviors and foster a safe environment for all students.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provides classroom management assistance and implementation of treatment plans for students classified as special education.
ESSSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist Classroom teacher with classroom behavior management including behavior intervention, de-escalation, and re-engagement • Communicate with teacher to determine next steps and consequences after student is calm, safe and re-engaged in work • Support and promote positive behaviors of students at all times and support students in making healthy, safe choices • Comply with policies and procedures relating to student protection, health, safety and confidentiality • Complete the behavior tracker on the date the incident occurred • Report any restraints or seclusions to the building administrator • Support students with completing assigned work • Ensure students remain supervised at all times • Accompany students and supervise student behavior on school buses/transportation vehicles • Implement treatment plans as necessary in accordance with Board policy related to physical restraints and seclusion of students • which may mean physical restraints • Serve on interdisciplinary teams • Attend and participate in clinical staff and faculty meetings • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, staff, and parents concerning behavioral concerns and progress of students • Assist the classroom teacher with other functions as directed • Participate in all training and professional development sessions • Assist the behavior analyst with training of staff • Assume such other functions as may be determined by building administrator
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Some college courses highly desirable. Some experience working with disruptive behavior (especially with children).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Behavior managers will frequently be involved in restraining students in accordance with Board policy and must be physically able to handle this type of volatile situation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Hourly rate and benefits in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the East Hartford Public Schools and Local 1950 of Council 4 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO.
