This position involves providing direct behavior support to students with behavioral and emotional needs.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The primary role of the behavior mentor is to implement proactive, evidence-based strategies both individually with students and with staff by modeling strategies. The behavior mentor uses principles of applied behavior analysis to extinguish negative behaviors and promote positive replacement behaviors as developed in students' IEPs. The mentor works collaboratively with classroom staff to implement Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs), collect data on current IEP goals and interventions, and communicate noted trends to classroom staff. The mentor will utilize de-escalation techniques and management strategies for student-student or student-staff conflicts. The mentor works in conjunction with and reports directly to the Behavior Analyst.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Assisting the Teacher:

  • Serve as liaison between Behavior Consultant/Behavior Analyst/administrative staff to ensure classroom staff implement students' PBSPs/teaching plans with fidelity.
  • Model proactive, evidence-based strategies for classroom staff.
  • Collect data on current goals, current interventions, discipline referrals, and ABC data for new Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Generate data tracking systems in collaboration with classroom staff to represent collected data graphically to ensure communication of student progress.
  • Maintain paperwork for each student to support staff collaboration to include IEP at a glance, important personal information, most current PBSP highlights, the student's goals with tracking sheets, and pertinent data tools like ABC sheets or DBR scales.
  • Arrange the learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Assisting with Students:

  • Implement universal expectations and follow established consequences for all students, while implementing strategies and individualized modifications for all students with specific programming.
  • Work independently with students to provide opportunities to reinforce and practice newly taught replacement behaviors.
  • Work independently with students to generalize learned replacement behaviors to new learning environments.
  • Support students placing themselves or others in imminent risk by implementing Personal Emergency Interventions, after having been trained and demonstrating competency in the skills.

Assisting with Clerical Duties:

  • Work independently to represent collected data graphically.
  • Work independently to enter all daily data into provided templates (Skill Card Database).
  • Entering discipline referrals into the Student Information System.

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:

Skills required of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment to resolve conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educational and behavioral staff.
  • Ability to work with emotionally disturbed and/or behaviorally disordered students in a calm, professional manner.
  • Ability to collect, graph, and analyze data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree (psychology, education, social work, counseling) preferred
  • Previous experience working with students with significant emotional and behavioral needs; demonstrated ability to relate well to adolescent population desired.
  • ABA experience preferred
  • Experience working with secondary students required
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Behavior Technician Credential required to be obtained within 90-days of hire
  • PA Criminal and Child abuse Clearances current within 180 days prior to start date required
  • FBI clearance current within 1 year of start date required
  • Clearance as an MA provider by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government required

RATE OF PAY: 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

  • Support, Level 12
  • $27.82 - $33.86 Hourly
  • Placement on the step salary scale based upon related experience

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday- Friday. 7.5 hours/day, 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM
  • 190 days/year, following the school year calendar
