Behavioral Health Clinician
About the RoleAre you a licensed clinician who's passionate about supporting adults in recovery from substance use disorders? Thundermist Health Center is looking for a Behavioral Health Clinician to join our Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) / Office Based Addiction Treatment (OBAT) team. You'll carry a caseload of adults ages 18 and older who are receiving or seeking MAT services - conducting screenings, developing treatment plans, providing substance abuse counseling, and partnering closely with primary care physicians and Suboxone-waivered providers. Your patients may include moderate to high-risk adults with complex chronic conditions, poly-substance use disorders, and pregnant individuals. Conduct patient screenings using standardized tools and perform behavioral health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planningFormulate individualized treatment plans based on assessments and provide substance abuse counseling and brief treatmentsProvide clinical and consultative treatment services that are strength-based and client-centeredConduct brief interventions or refer to Thundermist's Integrated Behavioral Health department or community treatment providers as appropriateRespond to crises, assess need, formulate disposition, and implement appropriate care
Collaboration & Coordination
Work in close partnership with primary care physicians, Suboxone-waivered providers, and the MAT/OBAT teamCoordinate with clinical providers, social service providers, and care coordinators to support whole-person careParticipate in professional activities including continuing education, clinical conferences, and community group engagement
Documentation & Compliance
Document all aspects of screening, diagnosis, treatment, and referral in the EHR (eClinicalWorks)Complete all required documentation for treatment planning, billing, and licensure within required timeframesEnsure patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations

You're comfortable navigating complex presentations, collaborating with medical providers, and working in a fast-paced primary care environment. You bring clinical rigor and human warmth in equal measure.
Master's degree (MA, MFT, or MSW) requiredEligible for Rhode Island state licensure: LICSW, LMFT, or LMHCKnowledge and ability to independently carry out behavioral health screening, diagnosis, assessment, treatment planning, and treatment or referralStrong knowledge of medical terminology and Medication Assisted TreatmentAbility to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanorExcellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and internal and external staffA genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations, with an authentic passion for health equity and community health
Preferred:
Previous experience in a primary care setting, ideally in an FQHCExperience treating patients diagnosed with substance use disorders or addictionsOral and written proficiency in English and Spanish
Schedule & LocationsThis is a full-time (40 hours/week) position, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, based at a Thundermist location. Your schedule includes clinical supervision (if needed), a weekly Behavioral Health team meeting, a 30-minute lunch, and dedicated administration time.Benefits at Thundermist Health CenterFull-Time Employees Working 40+ Hours/Week
