Position Summary
The Collections Specialist is responsible for managing accounts receivable across Detox, Residential, PHP, IOP, and OP services within Mental Health (MH) and substance use disorder (SUD) programs. This role focuses on timely payer follow-up, resolving claims, reducing aged AR, and supporting overall cash collections. The Collector works collaboratively with Billing, Utilization Review, Admissions, and Finance to support Days in AR, Net Collection Rate, and steady cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage AR aging (0–120+ days), prioritizing accounts >30 days
  • Perform daily payer follow-up (commercial, OON, self-pay)
  • Resolve denials, underpayments, and submit appeals/reconsiderations
  • Reduce AR >90 days and prevent timely filing losses
  • Work high-balance accounts to accelerate cash collections
  • Track appeals, aging, and high-dollar recoveries
  • Collaborate with Billing, UR, Admissions, and Finance teams
  • Maintain accurate, detailed account documentation

Qualifications

  • 1+ years AR/collections experience in behavioral health
  • Experience with Detox/Residential billing required
  • Strong knowledge of commercial payers, OON reimbursement, and appeals
  • Familiarity with UB-04/CMS-1500, CARC/RARC codes, and filing limits
  • Experience with EHR systems (KIPU/CMD preferred)
  • Proven success reducing aged AR and improving collections (preferred)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to pass a level 2 background check: HB531 | Florida Agency for Health Care Administration
