Behavioral Health Consultant - Job Overview
Schedule: Monday-Friday (8AM-4PM)
As a Behavioral Health Consultant, you’ll bring compassionate, timely behavioral health support directly into the primary care setting. Your clinical expertise will help adults, adolescents, and children navigate biopsychosocial stressors through integrated behavioral health screenings, brief interventions, clinical evaluations, and counseling.

- Participate in service coordination, follow-up, and prevention efforts that support long-term wellness.
- Help clients access voluntary family planning services and related preventive health services in compliance with funding requirements and state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen new clients identified at risk in the primary care setting to identify presenting problems, address urgent issues and/or provide immediate referral as indicated.
- Administer psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
- Provide individual brief interventions to adults, adolescents, and children experiencing biopsychosocial stressors.
- Provide direct clinical services including clinical evaluations and counseling using motivational interviewing and brief intervention methods.
- Review client records.
- Develop and write record notes and evaluation reports.
- Assist with service coordination and follow-up procedures.
- Coordinate consultation and services to various community agencies and health services providers.
- Collaborate with clients, physicians, and other providers to develop and implement client-centered interventions and treatment plans.
- Re-assess clients and complete new treatment plans as indicated.
- Work a full-time flexible schedule that will include evenings and some weekends.
- Meet with clinical supervisor at least monthly to review client cases.
- Document all encounters with clients, including but not limited to all contacts and attempted contacts with or on behalf of clients in the client’s medical record within 3 working days of their occurrence.
- Perform billing activities according to agency procedures.
- Attend all meetings as required.
- Keep abreast of developments in integrated behavioral techniques, theories and research.
- Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention, including FQHC-required voluntary family planning services and related preventative health services in compliance with funding requirements and state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the social or behavioral sciences.
- Must have a current Texas license, (LCSW LPC or LMFT) be in good standing with their credentialing board.
- Provider shall obtain, maintain and participate in the Medicare and Medicaid Programs, workers’ compensation, other federal and state reimbursement programs, and the payment plan of any commercial insurer, health maintenance organization, preferred provider organization, accountable health plan, and other health benefit program requested by Legacy.
Required Years of Experience
- Must have a minimum of 2 years paid work experience providing assessment, brief intervention and/or psychotherapy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
- Must be able to manage multiple deadline and decision making responsibilities.
