The Behavioral Health Intern will gain hands-on experience working with patients and will contribute to meaningful projects under the supervision of experienced licensed behavioral health professionals that match the student's credentials (MSW, LPC, LP). The intern will be responsible for assessing the patient's psychosocial, spiritual, educational and other needs. In addition to assessment, interns will provide coordination, treatment and aftercare to patients. They will collaborate with their supervisor in development and implementation of individual care plans and interventions with patients. Interns will work as part of a treatment team and will actively contribute as part of the care team. Interns will become proficient in planning, executing and monitoring effectiveness of the care provided. Interns will provide resources to patients. Therefore, the ability to analyze, evaluate and discuss resources and educational information to ensure understanding to all educational levels is key to the role. The intern will play a pivotal role in maintaining the quality?of?care patients receive and will work actively to monitor patient progress on action plans and goals. Interns will also maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation. Some behavioral health interns will also contribute ideas and feedback to the development of new programs and initiatives. They will research, collate information, collect and analyze data and prepare materials, reports and presentations. |
Duties/responsibilities will vary depending on department assignment and past experience.
Under supervision, assesses the clinical status of patients. Assists in the detection of "at risk" patients and intervenes to attenuate further psychological or physical deterioration. Consults with internship supervisor as necessary and refers cases to other behavioral health providers for longer-term specialty care as appropriate. Facilitates and ensures patient engagement and follow?up care. Works with care team to treat and manage patients with emotional and/or physical health problems efficiently and effectively. Provides cognitive-behavioral interventions using evidence-based techniques. Assists in preventing relapse in conditions that tend to recur over time.
Uses assessment tools with patients to assist in identifying concerns, triaging, and outcomes measurement. Systematically documents treatment response and monitors patients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment side effects or complications related to medical or mental health conditions.

Required Education:Bachelor's degree required
Currently enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral Degree program in of Social Work, Psychology or Professional Counseling.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Adherence to the Code of Ethics for degree pursued.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
