JOB TITLE: Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner POSITION SUMMARY: Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides comprehensive, patient-centered psychiatric and behavioral healthcare to individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders. The NP conducts comprehensive psychiatric assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, provides medication management and therapeutic interventions, and coordinates care with an interdisciplinary team. This role is committed to delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-based care while supporting patients and families throughout their behavioral health journey. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Build Trust: We exhibit integrity, transparency and compassion in every interaction. Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families through respectful, compassionate, and nonjudgmental communication. Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment recommendations, risks, benefits, and alternatives. Protect patient confidentiality and maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. Assess patients for suicide risk, self-harm, safety concerns, substance use, and other behavioral health emergencies, taking appropriate action to promote patient safety. Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and accountability in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues. Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed care that respects each patients individual needs, values, and preferences. Provide evidence-based psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management within the scope of practice. Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical outcomes. Monitor medication effectiveness, adherence, side effects, potential interactions, and overall treatment response. Maintain current knowledge of behavioral health best practices, psychiatric medications, clinical guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical case reviews, and interdisciplinary team meetings. Maintain complete and timely documentation in the electronic health record in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, access to care, clinical workflows, and the overall patient experience. Adapt treatment strategies to meet the evolving clinical, social, and behavioral health needs of patients. Utilize technology, telehealth, and other appropriate tools to improve access, continuity, and coordination of behavioral healthcare. Support integrated behavioral health approaches and collaboration across primary care, specialty care, and community-based services. Identify barriers to care and develop creative solutions that improve access, treatment adherence, and patient outcomes. Remain flexible and responsive to changes in behavioral healthcare practices, organizational priorities, and patient needs. Deepen Connections: We build strong relationships with our patients, their families and partners in the communities we serve. Develop meaningful, therapeutic relationships with patients and families that promote engagement and shared decision-making. Provide education regarding mental health conditions, medications, treatment options, coping strategies, wellness, and available community resources. Collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, nurses, primary care providers, and other members of the healthcare team. Coordinate referrals, transitions of care, and follow-up services to promote continuity of treatment. Engage families and caregivers, when appropriate and with patient consent, in treatment planning and ongoing care. Build collaborative relationships with community organizations and behavioral health partners to strengthen resources and support for patients. Advocate for patients and help reduce barriers to behavioral healthcare and other essential services. QUALIFICATIONS: Masters or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Preferred Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or other doctoral-level education. Additional education or training in behavioral health, integrated care, substance use disorders, or a related specialty. Required Licensure: Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Washington. Current prescriptive authority in accordance with state and federal requirements. Current DEA registration. Current BLS certification. Specialty Certification: Current Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) board certification Required Experience: Experience providing psychiatric or behavioral health assessment and treatment. Experience with psychiatric medication management. Experience assessing and managing patients with a range of mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders. Experience collaborating within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Skills: Strong psychiatric assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills. Knowledge of psychopharmacology and evidence-based behavioral health treatment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and therapeutic relationship-building skills. Ability to assess and respond appropriately to behavioral health crises and safety concerns. Strong organizational, time-management, and documentation skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations and demonstrate cultural humility. Ability to use electronic health records and applicable healthcare technology. Commitment to patient-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative care. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office, outpatient, clinical, and/or behavioral health care settings with potential exposure to patient care areas. May interact with patients experiencing acute behavioral health symptoms, emotional distress, or crisis situations. Requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and community partners. Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts as needed based on organizational and patient-care requirements. May require occasional travel between facility locations or community-based settings. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and effectively manage multiple priorities. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Ability to respond appropriately to urgent or emergent patient-care situations. May require occasional travel between facility locations.
