    About the Role:

The Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various behavioral health settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during episodes of emotional or behavioral distress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate clinical documentation and assisting with discharge planning to ensure continuity of care. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and supporting the multidisciplinary team in delivering comprehensive mental health services.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification is preferred.
    • Experience or training in mental health care, crisis intervention, or related clinical settings.
    • Ability to perform clinical documentation accurately and maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
    • Basic knowledge of mental health disorders, crisis management, and patient care principles.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associate degree or higher in psychology, social work, nursing, or a related behavioral health field.
    • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
    • Experience working with pediatric or adolescent populations with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
    • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
    • Additional training or certification in crisis intervention techniques or trauma-informed care.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide direct patient care and support to individuals with mental health and emotional disorders, including those with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED).
    • Conduct clinical assessments and assist in monitoring patient progress according to individualized treatment plans.
    • Implement crisis intervention techniques and manage emergency situations to ensure patient and staff safety.
    • Maintain thorough and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and discharge plans.
    • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and update discharge plans and coordinate ongoing care.
    • Assist patients with daily living activities and promote therapeutic engagement through structured activities and interventions.
    • Observe and report changes in patient behavior or condition to clinical supervisors promptly.

    Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for tracking patient progress and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are applied daily to de-escalate potentially volatile situations and provide immediate support to patients in distress. Clinical assessments enable the technician to observe and report behavioral changes, contributing to effective treatment planning and patient care. Knowledge of mental health conditions, including Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), informs the technician's approach to patient interactions and therapeutic support. These skills collectively ensure that the Behavioral Health Technician can deliver compassionate, effective care while supporting the clinical team in achieving positive patient outcomes.
