Behavioral Response Clinicians (BRC) work in collaboration with public safety agencies to include law enforcement and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as the Multidisciplinary Response Team (MDRT). As part of this team, the Behavioral Response Clinician will respond to 9-1-1 mental health-related calls and conduct self-initiated follow-up visits. The BRC serves as the subject matter expert in triage, assessment, de-escalation, and care navigation for behavioral health concerns. Provides direct services for consumers and completes associated case management documentation for the consumer and program. The MDRT will provide an array of direct (face-to-face) and indirect clinical services to youth and adults in a person-centered, trauma-informed, individualized focused approach utilizing evidence-based practices delivered to fidelity. These services are delivered in multiple types of settings including field-based services, in the individual’s home, or other identified locations in Waco.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • Receive direct transfer of calls from individuals seeking behavioral health assistance via 911
  • Addressing 9-1-1 mental health related calls more effectively by responding with a trained multidisciplinary team to divert individuals experiencing a mental health crisis away from jail and emergency departments and instead to the least restrictive environment.
  • Determine urgency of response based on caller presenting risk factors including, but not limited to, identification of acute psychosis, possible suicidal behavior or thoughts, thoughts to harm others;
  • Respond in the field for crisis assessments as part of the Behavioral Response Clinician duties;
  • Determine need for behavioral health service intervention through assessment of demographic, social, and clinical information;
  • Determine the level of risk of harm to self or others;
  • Routing patients to their most appropriate level of care.
  • De-escalating on scene of a client in crisis by providing crisis intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms, provide education and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
  • Use technology such as Waco Police Department Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), HOTBHN electronic health record, and Doxy.me for Telehealth.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintains positive and supportive relationships with multidisciplinary staff, to supplement existing services including the provision of information, training, and consultation.
  • Assist supervisor in collecting, organizing, and critically evaluating pertinent data from multiple systems to be presented to administration.
Experience:
Requires successful experience in providing behavioral health services for persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses, a working knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments, and crisis intervention
Additional experience or knowledge providing services for persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities and neurocognitive concerns is preferred.  One year case management experience preferred.

Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with master’s degree with a major in behavioral, social sciences, humanities, or education. Must be licensed as a LPHA or LPHA-A. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness, psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments, and crisis intervention. 
  • Demonstrated skill in crisis assessments and reporting results of interviews. 
  • Must have excellent time management and organizational/filing skills.
  • Must have excellent clinical documentation skills.
  • Considerable ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professional personnel (i.e. law enforcement, jail staff, hospitals, shelters, etc.), to exercise tact, initiate, and good judgement in dealing with consumers and relatives, to prepare reports and make recommendations for administrative use, to speak and write effectively, to relate to people and to interact with consumers. 
  • Local travel and transporting clients 100%.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of the job duties and ability to maintain regular attendance as set forth in center policies and procedures. 

Hours: Mon-Fri 2:30pm-10:30PM

Salary: $65,000-$71,500 LPHA-A Salary   $31.5000 - $34.3750 Hourly *Depending on Experience*
$75,000 LPHA Salary  $36.0577 LPHA hourly *Depending on Licensure *
