    Job Purpose:

    The Benefits and Payroll Manager is a key member of the Human Resources team and assists in all areas of Human Resources. The position has primary responsibility for the daily administration of all employee benefits plans and payroll. Meets with employees to discuss and resolve any benefit questions or issues that arise. Oversees the distribution of all relevant compensation materials and ensures that all requests for payment are made in a timely manner and fall within budgetary limits. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

    Essential Functions:

    Benefits Administration

    • Administration of all employee benefits plans including meeting with every new benefit eligible employee.
    • Coordinates on boarding of all benefit eligible employees.
    • Develops communication pieces (including print, electronic, and web) for annual open enrollment and ongoing benefit information.
    • Maintains all benefit enrollment and termination records and ensures compliance with all applicable benefit regulations and laws.
    • Coordinates annual benefit open enrollment.
    • Manages the resolution of claims and billing issues.
    • Reviews and recommends implementation of renewal and new benefit contracts.
    • Oversees the tuition waiver program and graduate loan program and tracks data on program usage.
    • Oversees the enrollment and education processes of the retirement plan.
    • Coordinates all appropriate exit materials, performs exit interviews for all exiting employees, and tracks responses to exit survey materials.
    • Manages and coordinates annual retirement plan audit.

    Payroll Administration

    • Works directly with Assoc VP regarding all aspects of university payroll, including time and attendance, payroll processing, tax withholding and submittal, and implementation of University payroll policy.
    • Updates the Payroll system for regular employee data and works to maintains accurate records of employee compensation and other matters.

    Compensation

    • Works with various campus offices and departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of payment requests.

    Workers Compensation

    • Works directly with the insurance carrier and employee for all workers compensation claims.
    • Maintains OSHA 300 log and files annual report.

    General HR duties

    • Maintains all employee files both paper and electronic, assists with the development and updating of policies for the Employee Handbook.
    • Works with the AVP to oversee the performance management process including preparation and distribution of evaluations, receiving completed forms, scoring, and statistical tracking of performance data.
    • Works directly with the AVP for the management of all special events overseen by the HR Office. This includes employee Christmas celebration, new employee orientation, retirement/farewell receptions and other trainings/programs.
    • Issues all FML notices and tracks FML time for applicable employees as well as meets with employees and supervisors to educate them on FML.
    • Supervises student workers in the office.
    • May assist the AVP in conducting employee relations meetings.
    • Oversees the employee recognition program including tracking years of service as well as ordering awards and preparation of certificates.
    • In the absence of the AVP may assist in supervision of the HR Assistant.
    • Regularly updates the AVP of Human Resources and Risk Management on all matters related to the operations of the HR office.
    • Assists the AVP with legal matters or other projects, as determined by the AVP.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Travel:

    No travel is expected for this position.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (candidates with over ten years of benefits or human resources experience may substitute experience for a degree).
    • 3-5 years of previous benefits administration and/or human resources experience.
    • A high degree of proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet functions.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • An ability to appropriately work with highly confidential material.
    • Excellent technological, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Human resources certification is preferred (PHR, SHRM-CP).
    • A committed and dynamic Christian faith is vital along with the ability to support the University's theological position, lifestyle standards and mission.
