Job Description:
This position supports the planning, implementation, and management of employee benefits programs across a complex and regulated environment. The Benefits Manager will lead cross-functional efforts, oversee vendor relationships, and ensure all benefit activities are compliant with federal and state regulations. This is a high-impact role requiring strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategy, design, and daily management of all employee benefit offerings (medical, dental, retirement, life/disability, 401k, etc.)
- Administer open enrollment processes and communications in collaboration with external vendors
- Develop internal procedures for consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all benefit functions
- Act as primary contact for vendors, brokers, and insurers—negotiating contracts and managing renewals
- Monitor benefit utilization, address employee escalations, and resolve complex benefit-related inquiries
- Oversee compliance with ERISA, ACA, IRS, DOL, COBRA, FMLA, and related regulations
- Prepare and distribute plan documents, enrollment forms, and participant notices
- Provide support for audits, filings, reporting, and litigation as it relates to benefit plans
- Collaborate with executive leadership to assess trends and ensure competitiveness in total rewards
- Oversee one direct report (Benefits Specialist) and provide guidance as needed
- Familiarity with invoicing, benefits budgeting, and cost analysis preferred
- Manage ongoing and ad-hoc benefits projects, including implementations and vendor transitions
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–7+ years of progressive experience in benefits management, preferably within organizations of 5,000+ employees
- Strong understanding of benefits compliance, ACA, and vendor management
- Familiarity with both fully outsourced and co-sourced benefit structures
- CEBS certification preferred
- Proven ability to analyze data, manage multiple projects, and handle sensitive information confidentially
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and benefits administration platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present clearly and concisely
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence and mentor others
Additional Details:
- Contract opportunity starting August 28
- Initial 6-month contract with potential extension or conversion
- Remote position, must be within commuting distance to a major airport for occasional travel
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Opportunity to support a company with over 9,000 employees (1,200 on benefits)
- Reports to a collaborative and strategic leader; team of 2 including 1 direct report
