POSITION SUMMARY

The BI Developer II is an experienced BI professional responsible for independently designing, developing, and optimizing Microsoft Fabric-Power BI solutions that support enterprise-wide reporting needs. This role is instrumental in building reusable semantic models integrated with large enterprise data platforms, implementing complex DAX calculations, and ensuring adherence to governance and performance standards. The BI Developer II operates within a modern development environment, leveraging CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, and GitHub for version-controlled, production-grade report deployment, and applies AI-assisted tools including AI to accelerate delivery and drive continuous improvement. Working closely with the BI Manager, Sr BI Dev Manager, data engineers, product managers, and stakeholders, this role translates complex requirements into scalable, high-quality reporting solutions and mentors junior developers to elevate team capability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently design, build, and maintain advanced Microsoft Fabric-Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models to meet enterprise reporting needs.
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, performant BI solutions that adhere to established governance, data modeling, and visual design standards.
  • Develop and maintain advanced DAX calculations, incorporating time intelligence, conditional logic, and security filters to meet nuanced analytical needs.
  • Optimize report and data model performance through indexing, query tuning, and best-practice modeling techniques.
  • Implement and manage Row-Level Security (RLS) and other governance features to ensure secure, role-based data access.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and governance teams to align BI assets with enterprise architecture, data quality standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Manage and maintain CI/CD pipeline workflows for Power BI report deployment, utilizing GitHub for version control within an Azure DevOps environment.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate report delivery, support schema analysis, and drive process improvements through intelligent automation and agentic workflows.
  • Mentor BI Developer I team members, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and skill development feedback.
  • Document data models, report specifications, and development standards to ensure reusability, maintainability, and team alignment.
  • Actively contribute to BI strategy by proposing new solutions, evaluating emerging tools, and championing continuous improvement in BI delivery processes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Platform & Architecture

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Fabric-Power BI development, including experience building and managing Power BI semantic models integrated with a large enterprise data platform gold data product layer (Snowflake preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, publish, and govern reports and datasets within Fabric workspaces.
  • Knowledge of modern large enterprise data platform gold data product layer components such as Snowflake, or equivalent data platform and how they integrate with BI solutions.

Data Modeling & Analytics

  • Experience designing and optimizing semantic models for performance, scalability, and governed self-service across a broad user base.
  • Strong DAX skills, with the ability to design complex measures, apply time intelligence functions, and implement dynamic security (Row-Level Security).
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including experience with complex joins, performance tuning, and working with large datasets from large enterprise data platforms (Snowflake preferred).

Development Practices & Tooling

  • Proficiency with Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative development.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipeline workflows for Power BI report deployment, with experience using GitHub for version control within an Azure DevOps environment.
  • Experience leveraging tools including AI-assisted (e.g. Dax Studio, Tabular Editor, GitHub Copilot Enterprise, Claude Code, MCP, Visual Studio Code) within or alongside Power BI to accelerate report development, support schema analysis, optimizations, and drive process improvements through intelligent automation and agentic workflows.

Design & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Experience designing dashboard wireframes and mockups with a strong command of UI/UX best practices, including layout hierarchy, visual clarity, and user-centered design principles to deliver intuitive, high-impact reporting experiences.
  • Strong attention to data accuracy, performance optimization, and visual clarity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify objectives, and deliver impactful solutions with minimal oversight.

Domain Knowledge

  • Experience working with healthcare data preferred, particularly within clinical, operational, and revenue cycle domains, including familiarity with data types such as claims, encounters, provider rosters, patient records, and utilization metrics.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Informatics, Engineering, or equivalent field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in BI development, with proven expertise in creating enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards and reports.
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in SQL. Experience in healthcare or public health data coding is preferred.

Salary

  • This position offers an annual salary range of $90,000 to $140,000. Exact salary will depend on the candidate's experience, education and geographic location.
