Summary:

Odyssey Academy is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Educational Diagnostician to support student achievement through culturally-relevant, ethical, evidence-based, comprehensive evaluations, collaborative problem-solving, and compliance with federal and state special education requirements. The ideal candidate is passionate about serving diverse learners and experienced in conducting high-quality evaluations that help determine student needs and support individualized educational programming.

The Bilingual Educational Diagnostician will assess students referred for special education services, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure evaluations are completed in compliance with IDEA, Texas Education Code, and TEA guidelines.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Evaluation & Assessment

  • Conduct bilingual and monolingual psychoeducational and academic evaluations for students referred for special education services.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments in both English and Spanish.
  • Evaluate students in areas includingbut not limited to:
  • Cognitive functioning
  • Academic achievement
  • Adaptive behavior
  • Dyslexia-related concerns
  • Determine eligibility for special education services under IDEA disability categories.
  • Write comprehensive evaluation reports that clearly communicate findings and recommendations.

Compliance & Case Management

  • Ensure evaluations are completed within state and federal timelines.
  • Maintain compliance with:
  • IDEA
  • Texas Education Code
  • TEA Special Education requirements
  • Review referral data and collaborate with MTSS teams prior to evaluation recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records in district systems such as SameGoal and other required platforms.
  • Participate in re-evaluations, transfer reviews, and records reviews.

Collaboration & Consultation

  • Collaborate with school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, special education staff, general education teachers, and administrators.
  • Participate in ARD meetings and explain evaluation results to families and staff.
  • Partner with parents to ensure they understand assessment results and educational recommendations.
  • Provide consultation regarding accommodations, interventions, and instructional supports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Bilingual Support

  • Ensure evaluations are culturally and linguistically appropriate.
  • Support Spanish-speaking families during meetings and communication regarding evaluations.
  • Assist campuses in understanding best practices for multilingual learners receiving evaluations.

Preferred

  • Experience in charter school settings
  • Experience with bilingual testing tools and interpretation
  • Familiarity with SameGoalor similar special education software systems

Qualifications Required

  • Master's degree in Special Education, School Psychology, or related field
  • Valid Texas certification as an Educational Diagnostician
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Three years of classroom teaching
  • Knowledge of IDEA, TEA regulations, and special education evaluation procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
