    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Bilingual Family Resources Assistant supports family engagement and access to community resources for students and families connected to Mark Twain Elementary School. This position serves as a bilingual liaison among families, school staff, Sunbeam team members, and community partners. Responsibilities include providing Spanish/English communication support, assisting with outreach and family engagement activities, connecting families to resources, and maintaining welcoming spaces where parents and caregivers can access information and support.

    All employees and volunteers are expected to demonstrate Sunbeam Family Services' core values and maintain sensitivity to the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic characteristics of the children and families we serve. Services should be provided in a culturally responsive, strengths-based, relationship-focused, and trauma-informed manner.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Build positive and professional relationships with families, caregivers, Mark Twain Elementary School staff, Sunbeam personnel, and community partners.
    • Provide information, referrals, and support to families seeking community resources and services.
    • Assist families in identifying needs and accessing available community resources.
    • Support the development and implementation of outreach activities that encourage family participation and engagement.
    • Promote Early Birds classes and other family-focused services and programs.
    • Participate in school, family, and community events as assigned.
    • Support parent engagement efforts that strengthen family connections to educational, community, and support services.
    • Communicate effectively, accurately, and professionally in both Spanish and English.
    • Interpret verbal communication between Spanish-speaking families and school, community, and Sunbeam representatives.
    • Translate written program materials, resource information, correspondence, and outreach materials between English and Spanish, ensuring accuracy and cultural responsiveness.
    • Assist families with enrollment processes, forms, information requests, and other support activities requiring bilingual communication
    • Work collaboratively with Mark Twain Elementary School staff, administration, and Sunbeam team members to support family engagement and resource access
    • Provide resources in a variety of settings for parents/caregivers of Mark Twain Elementary School.
    • Work with Mark Twain Elementary School staff and families to design outreach activities that encourage family participation.
    • Participate in events held by Mark Twain Elementary School.
    • Promote Early Birds classes.
    • Act as a liaison between families and Mark Twain Elementary School administration/staff.
    • Assist Mark Twain Elementary School staff as needed in family support i.e. enrollment assistance, greeting families, providing translation services.
    • Be a resource for families and teachers by providing opportunities for/information about parenting and community resources.
    • Assist families in connecting to resources to meet their needs.
    • Work with Smart Start staff to assess community interests and assist with planning, marketing and implementing activities on the Mark Twain/Harbison campus.
    • Assist in keeping the environments supporting resources for parents at both Mark Twain Elementary School and Harbison Community Room clean, stocked and welcoming.
    • Accurately translate written program materials as needed from English into Spanish.
    • Travel locally as required in the performance of responsibilities.
    • Perform other appropriate and related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor, Senior Program Director, Chief Program Officer or Chief Executive Officer.

    Minimally Required

    Experience

    Experience communicating effectively with families and children in Spanish and English languages

    Fluent Bilingual Spanish/English conversational ability to interact accurately and effectively with children and families from multilingual homes

    Ability to accurately interpret and translate information between English and Spanish, both verbal and written.

    Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

    Caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with and caring for children and families

    Able to exercise good judgment and t handle stress appropriately

    Willingness to work with high-risk, low-income communities

    Accepting interpersonal approach that reflects cultural sensitivity to the unique and diverse experiences of families served

    Able to effectively and respectfully communication and support diverse families, professionals and community groups

    Intermediate knowledge of computer operations and applications and the ability to master other computer technology/software programs, as needed

    Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.

    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

    Valid Oklahoma driver's license and state required vehicle insurance for any vehicle used in performance of job duties

    Local travel required plus work some evenings and weekends, as required by the job

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently communicate with staff and others, and must be able to exchange accurate information in both English and Spanish. The employee may remain stationary for extended periods, operate office equipment, attend meetings, and move throughout offices, schools, community spaces, and event locations.

    Work Environment

    The employee works primarily within Mark Twain Elementary School and related community engagement environments. Noise levels may range from moderate to loud depending on activities and location. The employee may work in close proximity to school-aged children and families and may occasionally be exposed to illnesses and other conditions commonly present in educational settings.
