Bilingual Group Underwriter Level II
Location: Remote - Ontario
The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $60,000 - $93,000. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
Empire Life is looking to hire a Group Underwriter II to join our Group Underwriting team! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.

What you'll be working on
Ensure that both non complex & complex requests to quotes (<250 lives), amendments, and renewals are processed accurately and within established turnaround time to support business sales and profitability objectives
Lead quoting, amending and renewal activity in both the non complex and complex space with a focus on establishing and growing long term partnerships
Is able to use experience and judgment to interpret Underwriting guidelines in conjunction with, product and service knowledge to provide recommendations on optimal solutions to meet customer needs and requirements
Appropriately documents underwriting decisions to support risk and pricing decisions
Is able to make basic - intermediate level decisions on negotiations and market rates within defined parameters while being able to balance acquisition targets with profitability measures
Provide consistent interpretation of group insurance policy terms to customers and distribution partners in support of strategic objectives
Work collaboratively with other team members, inside and outside of underwriting to support quote, renewal and amendment outcomes to achieve strategic objectives
Consults with Level III Underwriters or the Manager, Group Underwriting (Complex) on risk-related escalations
Proactively engages with both internal and external stakeholders to engage in discussions to support with both client acquisition and retention; utilizes Underwriting leadership where necessary
Acts as a point of contact with distribution partners and internal stakeholders; escalates issues to management as required
Executes on consultative underwriting practices that include risk interpretation, pricing recommendation, partner collaboration while working within defined parameters
What we're looking for you to have
Bilingualism is required (French & English)
4+ years of work experience in the group insurance/financial services industry
Proven knowledge of group benefits products, contractual provisions, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies with a proven ability to apply knowledge in practice
Demonstrated experience and comfortability in interacting with group sales and service environments
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Well-developed customer relations skills
GBA or CEBS Designation
Completion of a university degree or college diploma in a relevant field
Financial analysis; trend analysis
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Ability to think logically, analyze, and provide creative solutions
Ability to prioritize competing priorities while managing an ongoing workload
