Bilingual High School Equivalency (HiSET®/GED®) Teacher

Bilingual High School Equivalency teachers will assist adults to acquire and develop literacy and numeracy skills; to acquire the necessary academic prerequisites to access further post-secondary education and skill training opportunities, or employment and workplace training opportunities; to increase educational levels for purposes of self-improvement; to learn and develop living and social skills; and/or to acquire and develop English language skills. This appointment is contingent upon availability of grant or contract funds. If the funds from the grant or contract that provide funding for this appointment are no longer available, this appointment may be terminated without cause upon written notice to the employee.

Reports To: High School Equivalency Coordinator

Minimum Education/Experience: Valid Oklahoma Teacher's Certificate OR Master's Degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Successful teaching strategies for adults. Have access to technology for e-mails, internet, etc. and respond to requests promptly. Be detail-oriented. Have a respectful and encouraging demeanor toward students. Fluent in Spanish: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Sedentary work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. This position requires the person to frequently communicate with colleagues and students to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations. This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position. This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations. This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, classroom or office setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience.
