Primary Purpose
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of one or more certified teachers.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Certification: Minimum of 48 semester hours of college credit or an Associates Degree, or has demonstrated a rigorous standard of high quality instruction through a formal state or local academic assessment. Valid Texas educational aide certificate.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and General Knowledge
- Ability to work well with children.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children in both English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing).
- General knowledge of office equipment.
Experience
Some experience working with children preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Participate in staff development training programs, bilingual staff development, faculty meetings, and special events.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of LPAC paperwork.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout school day inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Copier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.
