At a glance!: The Outreach department is accepting applications for the Bilingual Outreach Navigator position, where you'll have the opportunity to join a collaborative and supportive team in assisting students and families, our partners, and events.

Who You Are: The successful candidate will have a proactive approach to customer service, is highly collaborative, and demonstrates a commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for LCC's diverse student population. As a member of the Outreach team, the Navigator will coordinate and collaborate with K-12 partners and multiple college departments to ensure excellent service and support for students.

The Position: As an integral member of LCC's Outreach team, the Bilingual Outreach Navigator serves the Spanish-speaking community in the college's service district, including attending community events, providing information in Spanish, and occasionally translating promotional materials. Navigator duties also include providing ongoing support to high school students with the LCC admissions process, preparing financial aid and scholarship applications, understanding dual-credit options, facilitating credit transfer for Career and Technical Education (CTE), and more. As an Outreach team member, Navigator duties also include collaborating with the Director and other team members on event planning and execution, as well as on other prospective student engagement activities.

The Bilingual Outreach Navigator is classified as a Program Specialist 2 and is 40 hrs/week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with some evening and weekend responsibilities (flex time is available). LCC offers a 5% assignment pay premium for Spanish-language skills in addition to the posted salary range (a Spanish-language assessment is required to qualify). The Bilingual Outreach Navigator reports to the Director of Outreach Services.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

50% - Advising and Student Support

  • In collaboration with the Director, develop and implement communication plans to keep prospective and new students on track with key activities to enroll, advance toward completion, and achieve transfer/career goals.

  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding dual credit options, especially CTE dual credit, to students, K12 partners, and parents, and provide enrollment reports and information for incoming dual-credit students.

  • Work closely with the LCC Student Ambassadors and One-Stop staff to ensure new students successfully complete processes leading to enrollment.

  • Manage a designated group of new students to complete welcoming activities and communications, such as text message communication, tracking New Student engagement, and referring students to appropriate LCC resources.

30% - Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships with the Hispanic/Latino community and provide specific outreach to Spanish-speaking communities through events, such as assisting with Financial Aid applications (FAFSA/WAFSA), scholarship or college application support, and attending community activities.

  • Support the Outreach Team in delivering targeted outreach and recruitment activities to diverse student populations, including communities of color, low-income communities, students with disabilities, opportunity youth, and adult populations.

  • Demonstrate cultural competence, including awareness and understanding of diverse populations, and promote an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Participate in planning, facilitating, and hosting outreach events, including presentations and orientations to new and prospective students, high school counselors, LCC advisors, and other parties to promote LCC opportunities, including dual credit, application support, enrollment processes, scholarship, financial aid, campus visits, and other activities related to community engagement and college outreach and recruitment.

15% - Administration & Compliance

  • Support compliance by working collaboratively with college staff and CTE faculty to help ensure accurate Programs of Study, transcript evaluation, agreements, and qualifying events are met as required by the Carl D. Perkins Act of 2018.

  • Maintain accurate files, forms, contact information, tracking of prospective students and new students, and communications using college technology

5% - Industry and External Partnerships

  • In partnership with the Director, engage with business, industry, and other external partners to participate in a variety of activities that enhance students' understanding of industry related to their field of study and to engage employers in career-related learning experiences.

  • Maintain positive relationships with all participating schools, LCC staff and faculty, local industry, higher education partners, and community members

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Associate degree in education, communications, social sciences, business, marketing, counseling, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to meet program goals, with the adaptability to pivot priorities as need arises.

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex processes across multiple communication channels to individuals from varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds

  • Attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify student or program challenges, maintain relevant information, and implement accessible, timely solutions. Demonstrated proficiency with computer processing software, presentation software, and/or social media tools.(such as Microsoft Office, Google Suites)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, communications, education, marketing, social sciences, student development, or a field related to outreach and recruiting.

  • Previous professional experience in an educational setting (K12 or higher education). - Counseling or teaching/ working with students.

  • Knowledge of student development theories and practices.

  • Experience in student recruitment, admissions, or a related field.

Conditions of Employment

Anticipated Start Date

Retirement

Employees participate in either PERS Plan 2 or PERS Plan 3 administered through the Department of Retirements Systems. Both plans are matched by LCC. There are also two supplemental tax-deferred retirement plans you can elect to participate in: the State Board Voluntary Investment Program and the Washington State Deferred Compensation Program.

Paid leave & paid holidays

LCC offers generous paid leave as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which includes vacation leave, sick leave, one personal holiday, two personal leave days, paid bereavement leave, and paid jury duty leave. Employees get 11 paid holidays per calendar year. Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on FTE.

Social Security

All state employees are covered by the federal Social Security and Medicare systems. The state and the employee pay an equal amount into the system.

Tuition Waiver

Once Classified employees complete their probationary period, they are eligible to take $10 classes at LCC. State employees also qualify for tuition discounts with other various colleges and universities across the state (RCW 28B.15.558).

On-site Childcare Center

The Early Learning Center is a state licensed program that offers high quality childcare for children ages 1 month through kindergarten entry to students, staff and faculty. The center is open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The program is a participant of the Washington State Early Achievers quality rating and improvement system and rated a level 4-Quality Level of Excellence. Our teachers are trained in the Early Childhood Education field.
