Job Title: Bilingual Phlebotomist (Port Chester)Job Description

This role provides professional phlebotomy services, including blood draws and specimen preparation, to support high-quality patient care. The phlebotomist helps patients feel at ease, obtains accurate and sufficient samples with minimal discomfort, and works with patients across a wide demographic. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their workday and in-state travel while maintaining a consistent schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and other blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles while minimizing patient discomfort.
  • Collect, label, and store blood and other specimens, such as urine or fecal samples, according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients so they understand what to expect.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all labels and orders are 100% accurate.
  • Centrifuge, split, freeze, and otherwise process specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.
  • Package specimens for transport and ensure they are stored and shipped at the correct temperature to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Follow detailed procedures for placing samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes and accurately labeling them.
  • Fully understand and interpret physicians' orders to ensure correct test processing and specimen handling.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts or orders to confirm accuracy before processing.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations related to safety, handling of biological materials, and decontamination.
  • Wear appropriate attire and required protective equipment to maintain a safe and professional clinical environment.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as needed to keep equipment and work areas in proper working order.
  • Update patient information accurately in systems or logs and maintain strong administrative and documentation practices.
  • Attend annual department trainings to maintain current knowledge of procedures, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Answer telephone calls, provide laboratory results as appropriate, and respond to inquiries in a professional and helpful manner.

Essential Skills

  • 2-3 years of experience drawing blood in a clinical or laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture with straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Demonstrated experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen processing.
  • Ability to collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Strong administrative skills and high attention to detail for accurate labeling, documentation, and order verification.
  • Ability to fully understand and follow physicians' orders and laboratory requisitions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations related to specimen handling, safety, and decontamination.
  • Bilingual communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse patient population.
  • Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients in a courteous and reassuring manner.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with infant and pediatric blood draws is a plus.
  • Experience with specimen processing beyond basic blood draws is an advantage.
  • Comfort handling multiple specimen types, including urine and fecal samples.
  • Strong phone etiquette and ability to communicate laboratory results and information clearly.
  • Ability to adapt to different locations and enjoy in-state travel as part of the role.

Work Environment

The role follows a structured schedule of 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The position involves working in clinical and laboratory settings and may include travel to different in-state locations, offering variety in the work environment. The phlebotomist works with standard phlebotomy equipment, including straight needles, butterfly needles, collection tubes, and centrifuges, and follows strict protocols for specimen handling and storage. The environment requires compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations, adherence to safety procedures, and wearing appropriate professional attire and protective equipment as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Port Chester, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
